Saitama is the star of One Punch Man, one of the most popular anime in the world right now. He's known for his laid back attitude, and his ability to defeat any enemy with a single punch. While he's beloved by many, not every fan knows him inside and out. In fact, there are plenty of interesting bits of trivia even longtime fans might not be aware of.
Did you know that he once got robbed at knifepoint while working at a convenience store, but was so chilled out that he assumed the robber was just trying to buy a knife? This was revealed in an interview with Saitama's creators, ONE and Yusuke Murata. There are more things you didn't know about Saitama where that came from, including info about his character design, details about his home life with Genos, and more.
He's Responsible For The Establishment Of The Heroes Association
Anime-only One Punch Man fans may not realize that without Saitama, the Heroes Association that gives him so much grief might never have even existed.
Three years before the story began, Saitama was coming home from a failed job interview. He noticed a child with an enormous chin drawing nipples on a being named Crablante. At first, Saitama was inclined to ignore the incident, but when Crablante attacked the child, he jumped in to save him.
As it turned out, the child was the grandson of Agoni, a multi-millionaire who was inspired by the incident to create the Heroes Association, which would promote acts of heroism like Saitama's.33016Is this interesting?
His Plain Design Is Intentional
Most anime superheroes have flashy designs that signify how impressive they're supposed to be. This isn't true of Saitama, but it was entirely intentional. Here's what his creator, ONE, had to say about his decision to draw a plain superhero:
"The world is full of cool looking heroes, so I didn't think that was something I wanted to write about. Plus, I believe that heroes coolness comes from their spirit and not their looks. I don't think how a hero looks is that important."25914Is this interesting?
Saitama Likes Mob Psycho 100Photo: Jump Comics
Given that Mob Psycho 100 and One Punch Man were both created by ONE, it's natural that there would be some crossover between the two. Rather than actually existing in the same universe, though, Saitama experiences Mob Psycho as a manga - one that he's a fan of. In an extra manga chapter called 200 yen that depicts Saitama's childhood, he's shown wearing a t-shirt that says "Mob Psycho 1000000." He's also shown to own at least one volume of the manga as an adult.2449Is this interesting?
He Probably Doesn't Need To Breathe
Saitama is a human being, so it's natural that he would need to breathe oxygen - right? As strange as it seems, Saitama might not actually need to breathe - he just does it out of habit.
According to John-Michael Bond of the Daily Dot, if Saitama needed to breathe, he would have perished long before he started holding his breath after he was launched onto the moon. He only started to hold his breath when he realized he wasn't on Earth anymore, but because he would have had all the air removed from his body by the powerful vacuum that characterizes outer space, holding his breath would not have accomplished anything. The only logical conclusion is that Saitama doesn't need oxygen to survive.24314Is this interesting?
