  • She Was Originally an X-Men Villian

That's right! Wanda Maximoff made her first appearance in X-Men #4 where she was actually part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. She and her brother Piertro joined up with Magneto's team of baddies to fight the X-Men in one of their earliest adventures. It was a brief stint and the mutant twins went on to quit the Brotherhood and work with the Avengers instead.

Also, she wasn't all that scarlet either...
  • The Scarlet Witch Is a Mutant

Although it will certainly not be included in Avengers: Age of Ultron due to contractual obligations Marvel has with Fox over the word "mutant," Wanda Maximoff is actually a mutant just like the X-Men! She gets her powers from the X-gene that manifests itself during childhood. This also means she is one of the few mutants on the Avengers.
  • She Was Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

Because she made her debut in X-Men #4, Scarlet Witch has the honor of being created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby- the legendary writer/artist team responsible for the majority of the Marvel Universe. That means Scarlet Witch in in the pantheon of characters like Thor, the X-Men, Iron Man, and Hulk.
  • Her Powers Are Hard to Understand

The character has had vaguely defined powers that have varied in magnitude since her conception. The official answer is that she can manipulate probability via hexes. This means that, through concentration, she can make things explode, catch on fire, or short circuit. This can also backfire on Wanda by not doing what she wants them to do. The whole affair becomes rather confusing when you add that she is also able to use magic with her powers.

Expect Avengers: Age of Ultron to come up with a simplified version of her powers for the movie.
