The Resident Evil series is one of the scariest, most haunting video game series of all time. From sudden jump scares to horrifying creatures to eerie sound effects, Resident Evil games are wrought with tension. The original Resident Evil set the sinister, tense, mysterious tone of the series through dark, eerie shots of zombie and demonic dogs that jump through the window.
Sequels such as Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis upped the ante with bigger, more grotesque monsters, and traumatic moments like the bombing of Raccoon City. While later installments such as Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 redefined the series, and took things in a more fast-paced direction. This gave us scary, action-packed moments like traversing Del Lago, or trying to evade a chainsaw wielding villager.
The Resident Evil series knows how to make us jump and has left its mark as one of the most enduring franchises in the survival horror. What Resident Evil moment scared you the worst?
Beware Of Dogs
One of the defining moments of the series comes from the original Resident Evil. This was the first jump scare in the Resident Evil series, and absolutely no one saw it coming.
You're simply trotting down an empty hallway and BOOM -- out of nowhere a vicious dog jumps through a window and starts chasing you. Then, you sh*t your pants again a few seconds later as you try to escape and another dog jumps through a window. It's deeply upsetting.Agree or disagree?
"Oh Yeah!" * Read In Kool-Aid Man Voice*
Capcom really changed the formula with Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The game simultaneously took place before and after Resident Evil 2, and featured a temporarily indestructible antagonist named Nemesis that burst through walls at random times like the Kool-Aid Man. It was this extremely potent and unique mixture of pants-sh*ttingly scary and just sort of annoying. Nothing has really matched it since.Agree or disagree?
Many of the scariest moments in the Resident Evil series are jump scares, while others rely on a seemingly invulnerable enemy to chase you around. But in the original Resident Evil , however, things were more simple. To clarify, they were still f*cking terrifying.
Your encounter with the very first zombie in Raccoon City is utterly and elegantly haunting. A combination of tension, gore, and pure fear of being eaten alive, this scene is seriously one of the most lingeringly horrifying in the series.Agree or disagree?
Easy On The Licker
Resident Evil 2 was our first introduction to Leon Kennedy, the "zapping system," and a ton of creepy enemies like the Licker. And yep, its tongue is just as long and awful as you're imagining.
The scariest part about your first encounter with a Licker is that even though you know it's coming, it still scares the sh*t out of you. Just before your first encounter, you can see the Licker skitter across the window, foreshadowing your imminent doom. And the doom of your pants.Agree or disagree?
