Flying is arguably the safest way to travel. You have a significantly greater chance of meeting your demise in a car accident or as a pedestrian than you do in the friendly skies. But after the events of September 11, 2001, the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) tightened its rules on what you can and cannot bring in your carry-on bags.
Airports can be weird, but some of the things folks have tried to sneak in their carry-on bags are even more bizarre. By now, you would think most people know the rules, but there still are plenty of folks who like to test the boundaries. They may try to board with guns, knives, explosive devices, and other prohibited items. Some try to camouflage contraband in a burrito or shoe, while others simply say, "Hey, I'm just taking this machete with me."
Luckily, most people can't pass security checkpoints with these items. The TSA has an Instagram account that shows confiscated items from passengers who have tried and failed to smuggle questionable stuff onboard - when you see the goods, you'll be thankful they did.
