Taylor Swift has long been known for her feuds - whether it be with Katy Perry, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Lorde, Diplo, etc. With Taylor’s upcoming album Lover and the hug she shared with Katy Perry in the music video for “You Need to Calm Down,” it seemed those days of feuding may be over.
However, on June 30, 2019, Taylor Swift shared a scathing Tumblr post after it was announced that Scooter Braun had purchased Big Machine Records for $300 million, thereby gaining ownership of the Taylor Swift masters, aka every record Taylor Swift had ever recorded before Lover.
The “ME!” singer ripped into Scooter Braun, saying she’d suffered years of “incessant, manipulative” bullying from the manager, as well as his celebrity clients including Justin Bieber and Kanye West. And thus began the Scooter Braun Taylor Swift drama of 2019.
Taylor Swift also dragged the former Big Machine Records owner, Scott Borchetta, saying, “This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value’, he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it.”
But Taylor Swift fans are nothing if not vocal, so you know that wasn’t the end of the Scooter Braun Taylor Swift beef. Swifites - including famous squad members like Cara Delevingne, Haim, Todrick Hall, and Martha Hunt quickly came to her defense. Meanwhile, Justin Bieber and Scooter Braun’s wife Yael Cohen rushed to defend him on social media.
