Beneath the Remains

Beneath the Remains is the third studio album by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura, released on April 7, 1989. It was their first release by Roadrunner Records.

Cause of Death

Cause of Death is the second album by American death metal band Obituary. It was released on September 19, 1990. Cause of Death is considered a classic album in the history of death metal. The artwork was done by artist Michael Whelan. It is their first release with longtime member Frank Watkins on bass, and also their first and only album with guitarist James Murphy, previously of the group Death.
The cover art of this album was used in an H.P. Lovecraft collection, Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre, and part of it was used in The Tomb and The Doom That Came to Sarnath paperbacks. It was supposed to be the cover of Sepultura's album Beneath the Remains, but Roadrunner Records let Obituary use it first, even though Cause of Death was released in 1990, a year after Beneath the Remains. Sepultura chose another Michael Whelan illustration for Beneath The Remains's cover.

Considered Dead

Considered Dead is the first album by Gorguts, released in 1991.
Considered Dead was later remastered, reissued and paired with its successor, The Erosion of Sanity, as part of Roadrunner's Two from the Vault series, in 2004. It was reissued alone in 2006 with two demo tracks.

Deicide

Deicide is the eponymous debut album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released on June 25, 1990, by Roadrunner Records. The album contains all of their demo tracks, plus the songs "Deicide" and "Mephistopheles".

Eaten Back to Life

Eaten Back to Life is the debut album by American death metal band Cannibal Corpse. It was released on August 17, 1990, through Metal Blade Records. The album was banned in Germany—censored versions of the album were not available, but the ban was revoked in June 2006—and other countries because of the violent cover and the extreme nature of the lyrics. Glen Benton of Deicide and Francis H. Howard of Opprobrium perform back-up vocals on "Mangled" and "A Skull Full of Maggots".
The following statement can be found in the inlay of this album: "This album is dedicated to the memory of Alferd Packer, the first American cannibal".
The remastered version includes a video of "Born in a Casket" as well as a less saturated cover color, a new text scheme for the title, and the Fisher-era Cannibal Corpse text scheme.

Effigy of the Forgotten

Effigy of the Forgotten is the debut full-length album by New York-based death metal band Suffocation, released in 1991. The cover artwork was created by Dan Seagrave. Several of the tracks had appeared on earlier releases: "Reincremation" and "Involuntary Slaughter" were re-recorded from the Reincremation demo, while "Infecting the Crypts", "Mass Obliteration", and "Jesus Wept" appeared originally on the Human Waste EP.
Both this album and Pierced from Within have been re-released by Roadrunner Records as part of the Two from the Vault series.
The album was dedicated to the memory of Atheist bassist Roger Patterson, who had been killed in a car crash earlier in 1991.

Focus is the debut album by Cynic, released September 14, 1993 through Roadrunner Records. A remastered version of the album was released in 2004.

Frozen in Time

Frozen in Time is the sixth album by American death metal band Obituary. It was released on July 12, 2005, and was the band's first album in eight years since 1997's Back from the Dead, and the last to feature guitarist Allen West.
Longtime contributor Scott Burns temporarily reunited with Obituary and became their producer for this album. It was 11 years since he co-produced Obituary's 1994 album World Demise. This was also the last album he co-produced for the band.
A music video has been made for the song "Insane".

Harmony Corruption

Harmony Corruption is the third album by Napalm Death. It was released in 1990 on Earache Records. The style of the album was more death metal than grindcore, featuring extremely heavy riffs and deep low vocals. The tracks from the Mentally Murdered EP are included at the end of early editions of the CD, though versions now in print feature only the standard eleven tracks. It is the first Napalm Death album to feature Mark "Barney" Greenway as the vocalist and Mitch Harris and Jesse Pintado as guitarists, and the last with Mick Harris on drums.
Richard Johnson, a member of Agoraphobic Nosebleed, says that the wide distribution of Harmony Corruption ensured that it had a greater impact on the American grindcore scene than earlier Napalm Death efforts.
John Tardy, vocalist of Obituary, and Glen Benton, vocalist of Deicide, provide backing vocals on the track "Unfit Earth" in the later sections.
Their third UK chart entry, this album peaked at number 7. Limited vinyl pressing included the bonus LP with live set recorded at I.C.A.
In 2012, Earache Records released a remixed & remastered edition, containing bonus tracks.

Haunted

Haunted is Six Feet Under's debut album. It was released on Metal Blade in 1995, after Barnes' departure from Cannibal Corpse.

Human

Human is the fourth album by American heavy metal band Death, released in 1991. The album marked the beginning of a major stylistic change for Death, being more technically complex and progressive than the band's previous efforts. The lyrics are more introspective when compared to the gore-based lyrics of Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy or the social commentary on Spiritual Healing. This new style would continue to evolve on all following Death albums. The only album to feature guitarist Paul Masvidal, drummer Sean Reinert and the first to feature bassist Steve DiGiorgio.
Bass player Steve DiGiorgio left after the recording of this album. He was replaced by Skott Carino, who toured with the band in 1991 and 1992. Carino also recorded a few seconds of bass on "Cosmic Sea", and the rest of the song was recorded by DiGiorgio. The album also features guitarist Paul Masvidal and drummer Sean Reinert, both of the bands Æon Spoke and fellow technical death metal pioneers Cynic.
In 2011, Relapse Records and Perseverance Holdings Ltd. re-issued the album to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original release.

Individual Thought Patterns

Individual Thought Patterns is the fifth album by American heavy metal band Death, released in 1993. The only album to feature guitarist Andy LaRocque, the first to feature drummer Gene Hoglan and the last to feature bassist Steve DiGiorgio.
Featured are founder, vocalist, and guitarist, Chuck Schuldiner, guitarist Andy Larocque, drummer Gene Hoglan and bassist Steve DiGiorgio.
Musically the album continues to expand on the technical/progressive style that began with Human, incorporating elements usually associated with free jazz. Just as adventurous are Schuldiner's lyrics which explore human facets including critiques of social norms, constructs and perceptions.
This album contains the track "The Philosopher", for which a music video was made that received airplay on MTV and was even reviewed - and comically panned - by Beavis & Butthead, where the duo mistake the boy in the video for Jeremy from the Pearl Jam video and mock Schuldiner's vocals. According to Metal-Rules.com, the album is the 100th greatest heavy metal album of all time, as well as the 11th greatest extreme metal album of all time. The album is included in Guitar Player Magazine's Metal Guitar albums Top 20.

Legion is the second full length album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released by Roadrunner Records on June 9, 1992.

Once Upon the Cross

Once Upon the Cross is the third studio album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released on April 18, 1995, by Roadrunner Records.
The samples at the beginning of the opening track "Once Upon the Cross" and "Trick or Betrayed" are taken from the film The Last Temptation of Christ.

Pierced From Within

Pierced from Within is an album released in 1995 by the technical death metal band Suffocation. "Synthetically Revived" is a re-recording of the song of the same name from the Human Waste EP and "Breeding the Spawn" is a re-recording of the title track from the band's previous album.
Both this album and Effigy of the Forgotten have been re-released by Roadrunner Records as part of the Two from the Vault series.
Before 2013's Pinnacle of Bedlam, this was the only full-length album by Suffocation not to feature Mike Smith as a drummer.

Serpents of the Light is the fourth full-length album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released on October 21, 1997, by Roadrunner Records.
Glen Benton stated that "Serpents of the Light" was written "about a friend of mine that died".

Slowly We Rot

Slowly We Rot is the debut album by American death metal band Obituary. It was released on May 16, 1989 and is also the only album on which Obituary used E standard guitar tuning, as all of Obituary's other albums use D standard tuning. Despite this, it is widely considered to be Obituary's heaviest album. It was re-released in 1997. The only album to feature bassist Daniel Tucker.

Spiritual Healing

Spiritual Healing is the third album by American heavy metal band Death, released in February 1990. This album was out of print, but it has been reissued by Relapse Records as of November 2012. The only album to feature both guitarist James Murphy and bassist Terry Butler and the last to feature drummer Bill Andrews. This is the first of Death's albums to show Schuldiner's lyrics moving away from the gore and horror themes of previous works, focusing instead on themes of society including abortion, genetics, and televangelism, a direction that would be further refined on 1991's Human album. The musical content is more obviously melodic, a facet highlighted by James Murphy's characteristic lead guitar playing. The members of Death and their manager/co-producer Eric Greif stayed in a single motel room at the Safari Inn, near Busch Gardens, for the entire six weeks the album was recorded and mixed, although bassist Terry Butler and drummer Bill Andrews frequently went home as they lived in the Tampa area.
This was the final Death album cover painted by Ed Repka.

Testimony of the Ancients

Testimony of the Ancients is the third album by the Dutch death metal band Pestilence, released in 1991 on Roadrunner Records.
Following the departure of former bassist/vocalist Martin VanDrunen, guitarist Patrick Mameli taking over vocal duties. Mameli steered the band towards a more melodic and technical approach. The resulting concept album, Testimony of the Ancients contrasted brutal death metal riffs with melodic interludes and tackled what John Serba describes as, "strangely philosophical, and oddly compelling, subject matter". After each song on the album, there was an instrumental outro track. This attempt to push the boundaries of death metal at a time when the scene was saturated with copycat "one track minded" bands, mirrored the efforts of fellow progressive bands Atheist and Death who released Unquestionable Presence and Human respectively in 1991, the same year as Testimony. The album can also be seen as a stepping stone on the way to the following Pestilence album Spheres, which departed still further from traditional death metal and headed towards jazz fusion.

The Bleeding

The Bleeding is the fourth studio album by American death metal band Cannibal Corpse, released in 1994 through Metal Blade Records. It is the last album featuring singer and founding member Chris Barnes and is the first album featuring guitarist Rob Barrett. According to Soundscan numbers, The Bleeding is the fifth top-selling death metal LP in the United States, amassing over 98,300 copies sold. The Bleeding is also Cannibal Corpse's most successful album to date, and their first entry on the Billboard charts.
A video was made for the song "Staring Through the Eyes of the Dead". A re-mastered version of The Bleeding is available and features new cover art, a bonus track and the music video of "Staring Through the Eyes of the Dead".

The End Complete

The End Complete is the third album by American death metal band Obituary. It was released on April 21, 1992. This album marked the return of guitarist Allen West who performed on the debut album.
This album is Obituary's best selling, with over 200,000 copies sold in the U.S. and more than 550,000 worldwide. It reached #16 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. Also, the band's new logo introduced on The End Complete is the best selling shirt print in the history of Roadrunner Records.
A music video was made for the title track.

To the Gory End

To the Gory End is the first album by British death metal band Cancer. The cover artwork was censored in some countries, with only the band's name and album title left on a black background. The image is a painting based on a still from Dawn of the Dead.
