It won’t come as a surprise to anyone to say that Hollywood has its fair share of oddballs. Some of them are a bit too strange to handle and make people take a few steps back, while others… well, it just adds to their charm. Take Shailene Woodley, for example: she's completely quirky and doing her own thing 100% of the time, but owns it like no other. She's not afraid to show her zany, oddball self to people - Shailene Woodley is weird and proud of it.
Shailene Woodley rose to fame as that girl from the Divergent series and The Secret Life Of The American Teenager. But she soon filled so many other roles showing off her extreme talent. While her acting chops have definitely endeared her to many and earned her plenty of fans, her quirky personality has become another reason why people love her so much.
Some of the things she talks about are extremely relatable, as in: “Whenever I need a pick-me-up, I just watch Pocahontas,” while others… eh, maybe not so much: "I think the future of food is in insects."
If you didn't like her before reading this, it's almost guaranteed you will after you see why fans love Shailene Woodley. Plus - how can anyone not like Shailene Woodley?! Did you not see Big Little Lies???
She Doesn't Have A Smartphone
Yes, you heard that right. It may be hard for some millennials to comprehend how one of their peers survives without a smartphone, but in a 2014 interview Shailene stated that not only does she not have a smartphone, she doesn't even have a cell phone. After filming Divergent she got rid of all her material items, and that included her cell phone. She said she prefers to see people face to face rather than thumb to thumb.
"I’m not a big technology person. I don’t even have a smartphone. I don’t even have a cellphone! And if I were to have one, it would be a flip-phone."
She Tans Her Lady Parts
It's not about looks, alright? It's about health. Everyone knows the sun is an amazing source of Vitamin D, which is essential to our health and well-being. While its benefits are pretty general, it turns out Vitamin D is specifically very helpful in maintaining healthy reproductive organs. So what does Shai do? Well, if she feels she needs a little extra care down below, she makes a point of getting some sun, as she told Into The Gloss:
“I like to give my vagina a little vitamin D. I was reading an article written by an herbalist about yeast infections and other genital issues, and she said there’s nothing better than vitamin D. If you’re feeling depleted, go in the sun for an hour and see how much energy you get. Or, if you live in a place that has heavy winters, when the sun finally comes out, spread your legs and get some sunshine.”
She Eats Raw Garlic
When it comes to meds, Shai doesn't need a doctor. She doesn't need any over-the-counter treatment, either. Why? Well, like her beauty products, she also makes her own medicine.
“I make my own medicines; I don’t get those from doctors. I make my own cheese and forage wild foods and identify wild plants. It’s an entire lifestyle. It’s appealing to my soul.”
She shared some very interesting tips with Jimmy Fallon on which vegetables are great for fighting the cold and flu including garlic (antibiotic), ginger (helps with inflammation) and horseradish (cancer fighter). There are so many different vegetables and herbs that help your immune system in various different ways, and Shailene seems to have them all in constant rotation.
Shailene Woodley says she loves heart-to-heart hugs. What exactly is that? Well, you hug someone on the right side so that the two peoples hearts are over each other. Shailene starred in the movie The Fault In Our Stars, which was an adaptation of John Green's wildly successful young adult novel of the same name. He shared his experience meeting Shailene for the first time.
“The first time we met, we hugged the regular way and then she looked very, very deeply into my eyes from like two inches away - it's pretty intense - and then she said, 'I need some heart-to-heart,' and then we hugged the other way so that our hearts touched."
It totally makes sense to get a little heart-to-heart action; after all, isn't a hug a sign of affection? Would you turn down a heart-to-heart hug from Shailene? No? Didn't think so.
