Sheldon and Leonard are the first names of the two protagonists. However, the two combined are the full name of producer Sheldon Leonard, after whom both Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstader are named.
The first episode of The Big Bang Theory established that Sheldon and Leonard's combined IQ is 360. However, Sheldon contributes 187 of this number, being greater in terms of IQ points to Leonard's 173.
