Over the years, the best shock rock bands have managed to rankle the status quo and scare people outside of the music fans. Shock rock, which incorporates elements of glam rock, hard rock and metal, is one of the most theatrical genres of rock music. The best shock rock bands are known for their edgy, over-the-top live performances. Shock rock peaked in the 1970s when some of the top shock rock bands emerged and the sensational shows laid the groundwork for bands to come in the future.

So, who can be considered the best shock rock bands? For starters, any list of shock rock bands can't be complete without the likes shock rock artists like Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne. Though Osbourne may be known more as a heavy metal and hard rock singer, his antics on-stage fall in line with the definition of what shock rock is. As for Cooper, with his use of imagery and makeup, he helped pave the way for the likes KISS and GWAR and other shock rock bands.
