Moody, brooding, disengaged and dark are just a few adjectives that can used to describe shoegaze bands. Emerging from the UK in the late 1980s/early 1990s, shoegaze bands were given that moniker because of their live shows. These shows included musicians standing still on-stage during live performances in a detached manner where they would literally stare at the ground, literally shoe gazing hence the name. The best shoegaze bands played a droning blend of alternative rock that focused on heavy drone guitars.
