Every Major Shonen Anime Ranked by Amount of Fanservice

There’s a lot to love about anime. Non-stop action; breathtaking animation, and the emotional storylines that always leave you wanting more. If none of that thrills you, there’s also lots of awesomely attractive anime characters too.

Anime fanservice comes in all shapes and sizes. Some popular anime series love showcasing the gorgeous bodies of its female cast, while others love demonstrating the physical masculinity of its men. Anime comedies like Gin Tama treat fanservice more as a joke, while ecchi anime like Highschool of the Dead go full steam ahead on the steaminess. Take a look at how these major shonen anime use fanservice throughout their shows.

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma isn’t just fanservice for anime viewers, it’s fanservice for foodies as well. It’s a celebration of culinary cooking mixed with intense sensual imagery of meal preparations and digestions. The reactions from some of the customers - the female customers, in particular - can reach high levels of eroticism.

The cast of Fairy Tail may specialize in magic, but they could easily win any beauty pageant or bodybuilder competition of their choosing. Gray Fullbuster and Natsu Dragneel love showing off their abs, while Lucy Heartfilia and Erza Scarlet are constantly wearing revealing outfits. Even old dudes like Makarov Dreyar gets a chance to flex out.

From episode one, Kill la Kill makes it clear this is not a conservative action. It’s a highly-stylized thrill ride filled with scantily-clad men and women. The fanservice is incredibly sensual one minute and ridiculously Looney Tunes the next. Overall, Kill la Kill is an outrageous celebration of the human form.

If you haven’t heard of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, you’ve most likely seen it without realizing it. Hestia, the goofy short stack goddess, inspired an art movement not too long ago with her blue-ribbon attire that surrounds her arms and bust. Hestia usually hogs the fanservice spotlight, but as the series goes on, Bell Cranel meets more beautiful women who are in love with his self-conscious personality.

    Fire Force

As an anime about the everyday lives of supernatural firefighters, Fire Force can get pretty steamy. Everyone on the show is hot, figuratively and literally. While there are some subtle moments, most of the fanservice in Fire Force are ridiculous ecchi gags that come at the expense of its female cast.

  • The Seven Deadly Sins doesn’t shy away from showing off how attractive its characters are. Similar to Fire Force, some of the ecchi humor at Elizabeth Liones’s expense can be too much. However, the fantasy anime loves flaunting the muscular bods of its male cast, such as Meliodas. The women on the show are also beautiful and muscular at the same time, such as the giant Matrona.
