14 Warning Signs You're Dating A Full-Blown Psychopath

There are many reasons why some relationships can't work; different goals, sexual incompatibility, and unfaithfulness are common problems that can break up a relationship. Sometimes, though, a relationship won't work because someone is a straight-up psychopath.

Psychopathy can be hard to spot, since psychopaths are adept at charming others and faking emotional connection. However, they do have some secret tendencies that give their destructive disorder away. In fact, there can be multiple warning signs that your partner is a psychopath. Let's go over the most common behaviors associated with psychopathy.

If your partner exhibits traits such as a lack of empathy, compulsive lying, risk-taking, and promiscuity, you might need to make sure you aren't dating a full-blown Patrick Bateman.

  • They Stay "Friends" With Their Exes

Studies show that psychopaths like to stay close to their exes. Don't make the mistake, however, of thinking that they are emotionally attached. Rather, psychopaths keep their ex-partners around so that they can use them for sex, money, or other resources. Basically, if your significant other is friends with their ex and constantly hits that person up for rides to the airport, you might be in trouble.

  • You Are Always The One To Apologize

Psychopaths don't think that anything is their problem. It is difficult for a psychopath to accept responsibility for anything, which makes for a very frustrating relationship indeed. To matters worse, they also don't feel remorse.

If you are in a relationship with a psychopath, you may find yourself apologizing for things that aren't your fault, or trying to convince your partner to own up to something that they never will.

  • They've Been Married More Than Once

If your previously married partner is head-over-heels and demands that you two tie the knot to seal the deal, think twice.  Psychopaths tend to have multiple brief marriages, and a serial spouse is a bad sign.

  • They Are Constantly Bored

Psychopaths are never interested in anything for very long. They need constant stimulation and new objects to manipulate, and are therefore bored very easily. Psychopaths with partners are likely to be deeply invested at first, and then check out of the relationship quickly. It's basically impossible to hold their attention.

  • They Don't Have Any Long Term Goals

It is important that two people in a relationship have similar goals. However, this is pretty much impossible with a psychopath and a mentally healthy person. A psychopath's goals are based on control and manipulation of people and specific circumstances, "plans" that do not extend beyond acquiring immediate resources and favors from others.

They have no long term goals, because once they have gotten what they need from one person, they simply move on to another. They exist in a cycle, not a timeline of personal growth and development.

  • They Aren't Sympathetic Or Genuine

Emotional connection is one of the most important elements of a relationship. This, however, is impossible if you are in a relationship with a psychopath. Despite their incredible ability to charm, psychopaths often come across as being shallow or aloof, due to the fact that they can only relate on a superficial level. Their lack of emotional depth prevents them from being an empathetic and caring partner.
