  • Make Contouring Your New Best Friend

If you want to fake a thinner or more angular face, you need to get acquainted with contouring. This technique contrasts light and shadow to subtly tweak one's features. In order to contour like a pro, you'll need two things. A contour powder that's one to two shades darker than your skin tone is important; and you'll want a highlighter that's a shade or two lighter. You'll use the light shade to bring certain features forward (like your cheekbones). The dark shade will shrink certain features.

  • Carve Out Your face

There's no need to suck in your cheeks like a fish to make your face look more defined in photos. Contouring your cheeks will give you the same effect without the face cramping.

Find the center of your cheek, and apply a dark contour shade in a diagonal line from that point up towards your ear. Blend, blend, blend! The result? Cheekbones so sharp they could kill.

  • Add More Dimension To Your Nose

You want an easy trick to make it look like you've shed some pounds? Try nose contouring! Place a thin brush into your contour shade, and run lines of the product down both sides of your nose. Stop just before you get to the nostrils. The most important thing to remember here is to blend; you want your nose to look slim, not streaky.

  • Get Rid Of That Double Chin

By using a contour shade around the jawline, you can visually shrink the size of your face. Sweep a contour powder or bronzer (one that's a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone) right along and under your jawline. You can even dust some across your neck. Any place you've shaded will appear smaller and more chiseled!

Contour isn't just for your face! You can contour any body part that you want to look smaller or more toned, including your collarbone, chest, arms, and legs. The same principles apply. Swirl a dark shade on the areas you want to look smaller; add a lighter shade to the areas you want to slim; and then blend until your wrist hurts.

  • Use Highlighter To Complement Your Contour

Contour alone isn't the answer to a slimmer face. It needs to be paired with its partner in crime - highlighter. Use highlighter to call attention to a slim, angular part of the face.

Dab a luminescent shade just above your cheekbones to complement the contour and make cheeks appear even sharper. Then, dust a narrow line of highlighter down the bridge of your nose. Finally, highlight right under the arch of your brows and along your cupid's bow. Anywhere the light hits is fair game.
