Certain movie tropes are tropes for a reason: they're awesome. Slow motion falls are certainly one of them. Since the days of Hitchcock, slo-mo falling has been used (with varying degrees of success) to dramatically illustrate definitive ends for many villains and even a few heroes. And there's on specific shot - let's call it the Hans Gruber Special - in which the character's face is in full view as they drop.

Slow motion falling shots in movies can be used in a variety of ways. Sometimes it's a plot device, like in Inception and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, or for added intensity during a climactic moment, like in Die Hard or Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. And sometimes, slow motion plummets show up simply because it looks crazy cool, like in Dredd or 300.

There's nothing quite like the slow motion fall. So we've decided to showcase the best of the best. These are the greatest slow motion falling shots in movie history! Vote up your favorites below!
