The Best Songs About Hate

There's a fine line between love and hate, but the best songs about hate usually blur that line. Everyone knows that the greatest songs about hate are usually written post-break up, when the musician's heart is still raw and full of feels. But ex-lovers aren't the only thing on these bands' minds. Radiohead and Joan Jett have written songs about self-loathing, while the Violent Femmes have sung about their hatred for television. Even Tupac Shakur rapped about hating the world.

Among all of the best hate songs out there, CeeLo Green's “F**k You” (renamed in a cleaner version to “Forget You”) tops our list. The timeless mega-hit single remains one of the most scathing hate songs out there, besides Bob Dylan's "Positively 4th Street." Other popular songs that deal with self-hatred include Radiohead's "Creep" and Nirvana's “I Hate Myself and I Want to Die.”  Say Anything's "Hate Everyone," is about Max Bemis's early onset disdain for the human race. In contrast, the Avett Brothers really turn the hate song genre around with their "Ballad of Love and Hate." They sing about the different perspectives of a woman, (Love) and her boyfriend, (Hate), and how they treat each other in a relationship.
