Songs That Turned Out To Be Much Raunchier Than We Thought

When our favorite songs come on, we love to crank up the volume, tilt our heads back, and sing along at full blast. Maybe we should have taken a look at the lyrics before we committed so hard. The metaphors in song lyrics and the artists' meaning behind their music is completely lost on the listener sometimes, which can lead to inappropriate jams being played at inopportune times.

These are some songs people were surprised to find out had much dirtier meanings than they thought.

The Foo Fighters "All My Life" is about going down on a girl. It never occurred to me at all until I read that Dave Grohl said in an interview, “That song is a little dirty. I'm very fond of giving oral sex to women. It's a pleasure-giving experience - giving someone something that they'll remember for the rest of their lives, and if you do it right, they will.”

'Cake By The Ocean' By DNCE

    From Redditor u/ragbagger:

As I understand it from an interview, the inspiration from this song was listening to German tourists trying to order shots at the bar. They were trying to describe the name but it got lost in translation and came out as “cake by the ocean.”

The drink they were actually trying to order?

    Sex on the beach.

  • From Redditor u/PsychologicalPen1604:

“Poker Face” - Lady Gaga. She said it's actually about having sex with a man while she’s thinking about a woman.

    From Redditor u/jtig5:

I thought the line, “bluffin' with my muffin” made that one pretty obvious. Side note - On Glee, Lea Michelle and Idina Menzel sang the song as a duet as mother and daughter. How, how, how, could anyone not realize what the song was about?

  • From Redditor u/itamarka:

“Layla” is about wanting to nail George Harrison's wife.

    From Redditor u/dusktilhon:

Eric Clapton writing songs about his two favorite things: cocaine and George Harrison's wife.

    From Redditor u/ohnovangogh:

The key to understanding is knowing Eric Clapton is a massive piece of sh*t.

  • From Redditor u/breakthefifthwall:

I grew up listening to Meatloaf a lot because my dad played it on every car ride. One of my favorite songs was “Paradise By The Dashboard Lights.” [sic] My oh so innocent child mind didn’t pick up on the meaning of the lyrics until I rediscovered the song about a month ago.

I guess this one isn’t so innocent. The song is blatantly about having sex in a car and I just never realized it when I was a kid.

'Hellfire' From Disney's 'The Hunchback Of Notre Dame'

    From Redditor u/GingerSnapBiscuit:

“Hellfire” is literally a song about a dude who will burn a woman if she doesn't sleep with him. Like some Disney villains have questionable morals but Frollo is easily the worst in my opinion.
