After releasing test footage and subsequently the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog, Paramount Pictures received widespread ridicule and criticism for their design of the iconic video game character. Many pointed out Sonic's humanoid appearance as their primary qualm, especially his teeth, eyes and legs. One critic from Kotaku wrote that the original trailer was "horrific" and "a blight upon this weary earth." Paramount then delayed the release of the film to February 2020 and pledged to redesign Sonic with their feedback in mind.
On November 12, 2019, Paramount released the trailer with the newly redesigned Sonic the Hedgehog, and many fans have taken to Twitter to praise the new artistic direction and Sonic's much needed glow up.
"complaining isn't going to fix the movie. They won't be able to change anything in time."— 4HM | Lucifer CZ | TGA (@colstonalonso) November 12, 2019
Shut up, I hate that lie of a mentality. Look how good sonic looks now. It's almost as if they actually tried this time
