Using elements of rock, country and blues, Southern rock is a genre that (you guessed it) came from the Southern part of the United States and is one of the most popular subgenres of rock music. The best Southern rock bands are among the greatest rock bands of all time and with good reason. The best Southern rock songs are part of the great American songbook and are some of the most well regarded tunes in history. As for Southern rock, it is defined by boogie rhythms, thunderous guitar solos, heavy jams and lyrical content that tackle Southern culture and Southern pride. As Southern rock has evolved over the years, it's come to feature elements of garage rock and even metal.

So, what are the best Southern rock bands? Any list of Southern rock bands has to include names like the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Molly Hatchet, Drive-by Truckers and the Black Crowes. When you think of Southern rock, you generally think of these classic bands. New Southern rock bands come and go, but these bands have hits that audiences love to sing along with and are not easily forgotten. Southern rock is a genre that's become well regarded by music fans due to these Southern rock bands and how important of role they had in shaping rock music.

That said, it's up to you to determine what are the best Southern rock bands. If you notice that someone is missing from this list of Southern rock bands, feel free to add them. This list answers the questions "who are the best Southern rock bands of all time?" and "who is the greatest Southern rock musician ever?"

If you know enough about the genre, please vote based on the quality of the band's music instead of just voting for the most popular southern rock bands that you might've heard of.
