Does 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Deserve An Oscar? The Debate Is Raging Online
Spider-Man: No Way Home is the biggest movie of 2021, easily becoming the biggest money-maker of the year. But does it deserve a Best Picture Oscar? That's the debate currently raging online between Spidey fans who want their beloved webslinger to bring home the gold and people who think it's a fun movie but doesn't deserve an award.
Variety writer Owen Gleiberman made the case in an article and thus a debate was sparked.
"What on earth is stopping everyone from demanding that #SpiderManNoWayHome becomes one of this year’s Oscar nominees for best picture? On what planet would anyone argue that it shouldn’t be?" writes @OwenGleiberman https://t.co/xM2mziKCGo

Let's Hear It For Genre Films
This is awesome. SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME definitely deserves a Best Picture nomination. Genres like action, superhero, comedy, horror, sci-fi should be considered in the same thoughts as "Oscar-worthy" dramas. NO WAY HOME is a fantastic film on a performance and filmmaking level. https://t.co/VRT1dF2jjn

Oscars Likes Jokers
If Tom Holland delivered exactly the same emotional performance playing a rookie cop or a Vietnam soldier as he did playing Spider-Man, he would be considered for an Oscar. But, he's playing Spider-Man and Oscars only consider Jokers.

It's Got To Be Better Than 'Belfast'
I’m saying this as an MCU agnostic and I will probably never see NO WAY HOME but

To act like the Oscar Best Picture category is some sort of “sacred ground”…when cloying garbage gets nominated every year…come on.
I’m SURE that the new Spider-Man is better than BELFAST.
