Attack of the Clones - Amidala's Palace, Exterior

    Video: YouTube
While the interior of Queen Amidala's palace was shot in Italy, the exteriors were shot in Spain. The Plaza da Espana (Square of Spain) was built in 1929 for the Ibero-American Exposition. It features over half a mile of tiled fountains, endless orange trees, and a half circle moat with four bridges. You really have to see this place to believe it.

You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. You'll also never find a cooler Star Wars spot. Visit Djerba's main fishing port, Ajim, and not only will you be able to explore the exterior of the Cantina (which hasn't been restored since they shot there in the '70s), you'll also be able to check out Obi Wan's home, and the stormtrooper checkpoint - both within walking distance.

The Phantom Menace - Anakin's Home

Anakin's home from The Phantom Menace was a fascinating place even before they shot Star Wars there. It's a man-made maze of amazing architecture and ancient culture. Near the Sahara, it's an important trading hub. See where Darth Vader was from long before he was Vader by visiting Avenue 7, Novembre in Medenine, Tunisia.

Revenge of the Sith - Alderaan

Princess Leia's beautiful home was ultimately destroyed in the films, but it still stands in real life. Alderaan was actually filmed at a stunning ski resort in Grindelwald, Switzerland. It's the perfect place for skiers of any level and there are all manner of other fun winter activities as well. If you're a fan of The Golden Compass or the Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, you're in luck! Both films were also shot there.
