Set to hit theaters on December 15, 2017, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is riding high off the goodwill engendered by 2015's The Force Awakens. Unlike the much-maligned prequels, the new trilogy centered around Rey (last name unknown, but probably Solo or Skywalker) has delighted fans and critics alike.

Vanity Fair's David Kamp put together a massive set report from the upcoming film, gifting us with the first images (shot by Annie Leibovitz, to boot) of Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern's characters, as well as filling us in on some heretofore unknown plot details. So, get ready to meet the characters we're all going to have strong opinions about in six months, and learn everything important there is to know about The Last Jedi

WARNING: This list contains plot details and costumed pictures of new Star Wars characters. It's less"spoilers" and more "fuel for Star Wars: The Last Jedi fan theories," but nevertheless consider yourself notified.

Laura Dern Will Play Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, And She Looks Fierce AF

Laura Dern's character Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo is slated to be a "prominent officer in the Resistance," and she certainly looks the part. Her combination of otherworldly style and elegance reminds one of a star-hopping version of Elizabeth Banks's Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games, but not quite as extra.

Dern has been rumored to play an antagonistic role in The Last Jedi, and while the Vanity Fair article has not confirmed that plot point, we do know that this installment will focus more on the Resistance. With the introduction of Veronica Ngo's rookie Resistance pilot Paige Tico (to be trained by Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron) and her sister/maintenance worker Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) slated to be a main character, we can all look forward to plenty of space rebel action. In fact, we now know that Rose will be sent on a mission into hostile territory with former stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega).

Benicio Del Toro's Character Remains Unnamed, Looks Totally Badass

Benicio del Toro's character remains somewhat of a mystery, but we now know that the cast and crew refer to him as "DJ." Honestly, he looks more suited to herding nerfs than playing a club in Ibiza, and filmmakers have confirmed that he will be a "shady character."

While del Toro definitely looks the part of a smuggler, it remains unknown what his role will be in the film, only that he plays a "major part."

The Casino City Canto Bight Seems SUPER Fancy

Looking like an interstellar version of the Casino Royale, Canto Bight is slated to be a new location in The Last Jedi. The aliens there look dressed to the nines, so it's sure to be a treat to see our heroes (who are far more comfortable at the likes of Maz Kanata's cantina) interact with the upper crust of galactic society.

It is also likely that we won't see Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) playing any space blackjack (blackholejack?). Creators have revealed that Luke Skywalker isn't exactly the hermit he appeared to be at the end of The Force Awakens, and that he has, in fact, formed a community with the planet's indigenous race in a primordial Jedi village. Luke will be a central figure in The Last Jedi, just as Han Solo was in The Force Awakens. Tragically, filmmakers also confirmed that General Leia (Carrie Fisher) would have played a much more central role in Star Wars: Episode IX if not for Fisher's untimely passing.
