People Who Hate Star Wars Explain Why
You may already be aware of this little known fact, but people love Star Wars. They've based their lives around it. Some people love that far, far away galaxy so much that they've actually made Star Wars fan films. Believe it or not, though, there are actually people who don't like Star Wars. Some hate it so vehemently that they have said some pretty shocking stuff about the franchise. There's a third, inexplicable group of people who have never seen Star Wars but they are completely irrelevant.
While movie-goers dislike George Lucas's universe solely because others love it so much, other people have legitimate gripes and can articulate quite persuasively why they dislike Star Wars (it often has to do with a particular Skywalker's acting chops).
This list explores some of these gripes. If you are a Force fanatic, be prepared. Some of these reasons are particularly harsh.

Star Wars Is Still Clinging To Its Past Fame
From PM_Your_Best_Smile_:
"Missed out on them growing up, watched the original trilogy... and Rogue One over the last year. Wasn't nearly as engaging as I had hoped, the light saber battles don't hold up and it's fairly cheesy. There weren't many super interesting characters and the characters didn't get a whole lot of character development, or so I felt. I don't hate or have anything against the series, I just feel a lot of its fame is due to how astonishing it was when it came out."

Star Wars Just Isn't All That Stimulating
From Uranium_moth:
"It's an incredibly basic and formulaic story with a very common structure. [It's] not exactly difficult to understand. Most people have low standards and are easily impressed. Laser swords, princesses, evil lords and magic [mixed] with some really good John Williams music [made] people will lap it up.
"I get it, I'm just not entertained by it. I want more depth and meaning behind my films. I work in the industry and you tend to find that those who are more involved with filmmaking and thus are exposed to more kinds of films are far less impressed by them than the general population are.
"You have to accept that not everyone likes what you like, it's kinda patronizing to assume that it's because they don't understand it. Maybe you don't understand anything better so you think it's good,"

The Storm Troopers Are Incompetent, Also Other Things Are Wrong
From hbgk10:
"I remember going to see the original in the theatre when it came out. And even then I didn't care for it. Partly, the story - well, maybe the dialogue - seemed cheesy. But it's all the little things. One or two I can get past, but elite troops that can't hit the broad side of a barn, and wear armor they can't see out of... the fact that clearly intelligent robots (well some were intelligent) were essentially slaves... worms the size of a sky scraper that live on asteroids or in barren deserts (what the hell do they normally eat when our heroes aren't around?). It goes on and on. I just couldn't manage to suspend my disbelief enough. But what moved it from 'meh' to 'I actively hate this' was the hordes of frothing fanboys that will go berserk at [if someone doesn't think the movie is] better than Jesus with a side of Buddha."

The Writing Is Bad, The Acting Is Worse
From tandoori_taco_cat:
"The special effects and fight scenes are sometimes cool, but the dialogue is frequently terrible, the acting is often worse and the plot lines are usually pretty predictable. The movie you think you are going to experience is usually better then the one you actually end up watching."

The Movie Is Sentimental Not Good
From Werft:
"Star Wars has to be one of the most over blown, tedious, and boring franchises out there. The only reason anyone defends it is because of the sentimental value it holds. They grew up with it, and so in their mind they remember it as a great movie. In reality, though, it's a children's movie and it comes across as a children's movie. It has no plot, story, or substance. I think that deep down everyone knows this, whether or not they're willing to admit it.
"Let's take a minute to talk about the plot... or the lack of one. Take a few minutes to think about this. The plot... isn't unique in the slightest, and isn't in-depth. It's also kind of boring. Most of the script seems to have been written in one draft and turned in as good enough.
"The one thing it has going for it is the revolutionary special effects. It's the first of it's kind, and unique in that regard. Unfortunately, the special effects were so clearly given far more priority than plot or characters that it makes the movie more of a novelty than anything else."

It's One Big Plot To Sell Merchandise
From JohnIan101:
"Stars Wars and its sequels were re-re-released many times over. Most with new extras [and] store exclusives; nearly every store had one. As a collector it was just too expensive to keep up. And you know [the' new movie[s] will be milked for every last drop.
"What I would prefer, would be like Lord Of The Rings. You have the theatrical cut, two disc set, then a mega box set with the expanded edition with everything. Done. No mess, you get two editions to pick from. Both quite valid, and made for taste; fan and uber fan."
From another Redditor:
"It's a 16 hour toy commercial... with the depth to match."
And another Redditor:
"Star Wars isn't a movie universe, it is a market... with movies, TV, and video games that serve to push the toy and other product lines."
