This should come as no great surprise, but there are plenty of stormtrooper celebrity cameos throughout the Star Wars franchise. Famous people are chomping at the bit to shuffle into the white armor and geek out. From musicians to actors, directors to members of the British royal family, a lot of well-known people have gotten the chance to live out a few childhood fantasies.
Which Movie? Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
Which Scene? Exactly an hour and a half into the movie, Rey is under the watch of a stormtrooper after she has been captured by Kylo Ren and the First Order. She ends up Jedi Mind-Tricking her way out of the situation. That stormtrooper is James Bond, himself.
How Did This Cameo Come To Be? Well, according to Entertainment Weekly, both The Force Awakens and Craig's then-new Bond flick Spectre were filming at the historic Pinewood Studios in England at the same time. Craig supposedly found out and worked his way into a minor scene in the Star Wars movie.
Which Movie? Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Which Scene? A deleted scene with Finn, where he is recognized as a former stormtrooper while attempting to infiltrate a First Order ship.
How Did This Cameo Come To Be? While it is unclear just how Prince William or Harry managed to book the cameo, it is safe to say the pair have a level of notoriety that is sure to open doors when called upon. Benicio del Toro described the brothers as "very nice" and John Boyega even personally apologized for their minor scene being cut.
Which Scene? In the beginning of the eighth episode of Season 1, two bike scout troopers jet across the rocky landscape of Nevarro. One of these troopers is none other than Saturday Night Live alum Jason Sudeikis. This minor character even earned the ire of the internet after he punched everyone's favorite meme-child "Baby Yoda" a few times.
How Did This Cameo Come To Be? Sudeikis has yet to go on record about how he ended up with a cameo in the hottest television show of 2019, but if other Mandalorian cameos are anything to go by, it is probable that series creator Jon Favreau contacted Sudeikis with an offer to be in "something special."
Which Movie? Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Which Scene? Tom Hardy is in the same deleted scene that Prince William and Harry appear in, where Finn is recognized by a stormtrooper while attempting to infiltrate a First Order ship. Hardy even has a speaking role in the scene; he puts on an odd, Southern drawl and compliments Finn for being promoted.
How Did This Cameo Come To Be? Before The Last Jedi came out, rumors started to circulate that Hardy had a role to play in the upcoming film. When asked about the possibility by The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy played coy and said, "Ah, the internet is a glorious web of deceit and misinformation, isn't it?" When the film was released, he posted a behind-the-scenes image to his Instagram account that confirmed his involvement.
Which Movie? Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
Which Scene? An hour and 15 minutes into the film, after our heroes fight the First Order on Takodana while being ambushed at Maz Kanata's castle, Resistance fighters come in to save the day. As stormtroopers lead the surrendered Finn, Han, and Chewie to lockup, one trooper looks up and exclaims, "We have incoming at 28.6! Move!" That is the voice of none other than famed independent director Kevin Smith.
How Did This Cameo Come To Be? This one is pretty simple: Kevin Smith is friends with the director of The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams. In a Facebook post, Smith highlighted how Abrams put him in both The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker.
