Those who tuned into Stormy Daniels and Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes in March of 2018 were witness to an interview that, if the allegations are true, could rock the presidency of the United States. Though there are obviously moral questions raised by a philandering commander in chief, the heart of the issue revealed by Trump's alleged encounter with Daniels is one of ethics. Mainly, is it even legal for a presidential candidate to pay hush money to anyone in the days leading up to an election? From the sounds of what Stormy Daniels said, it just might not be, and the Trump team's purported efforts to silence Daniels suggest the president is more than a little concerned about the possible political and legal repercussions of her decision to go public. What poetic irony it would be if Donald Trump — a man who has routinely insulted and bullied women, even bragging about sexually assaulting them — is brought down by one woman's attempts to hold him accountable. This may be a first: Trump has seemingly never been held accountable for anything in his life.
Let's take a deep dive into the crazy moments and most insane revelations from Stormy Daniels's 60 Minutes interview.
She Alleges He Compared Her To His Daughter
"He was like, 'Wow, you — you are special. You remind me of my daughter.' You know — he was like, 'You're smart and beautiful, and a woman to be reckoned with, and I like you. I like you."
She Claims Her Life Was Threatened By Trump's Team
In the evening's most shocking disclosure, Daniels claimed that Trump's team threatened her with violence. After she gave an interview with In Touch magazine in 2011 about her alleged tryst with Trump, Trump threatened to sue and Trump's lawyer killed the story. Daniels was never paid for the interview, and she said that days after the story was killed, she was approached by a man in a Las Vegas parking lot when she was with her young daughter.
"A guy walked up on me and said to me, 'Leave Trump alone. Forget the story.' And then he leaned around and looked at my daughter and said, 'That's a beautiful little girl. It'd be a shame if something happened to her mom.' And then he was gone."
When interviewer Anderson Cooper asked Daniels if this was a direct threat, she replied, "Absolutely."
She Says She Really Did Spank Trump With A 'Forbes' Magazine
It's an image that is now burned into the minds of every American. For months, there have been suggestions that, during their rendezvous, Daniels spanked Trump with a rolled-up Forbes magazine that featured a photo of his family on the cover. As much as you'd surely like to rid yourself of this mental picture, Daniels claims it really did happen. When Trump bragged about the cover of Forbes and offered to show her the magazine, she says she told him that "someone should take that magazine and spank you with it." She went on to tell Cooper:
"Stormy Daniels: I don't think anyone's ever spoken to him like that, especially, you know, a young woman who looked like me. And I said, you know, 'Give me that,' and I just remember him going, 'You wouldn't.' 'Hand it over.' And — so he did, and I was like, 'turn around, drop 'em.'
Anderson Cooper: You-- you told Donald Trump to turn around and take off his pants.
Stormy Daniels: Yes.
Anderson Cooper: And did he?
Stormy Daniels: Yes. So he turned around and pulled his pants down a little — you know had underwear on and stuff and I just gave him a couple swats."
Team Trump Is Threatening To Sue Her For $20 Million
Since there is a possibility of a massive million-dollar fine each time she discusses the alleged affair, Trump's legal team is keep close tabs on Daniels's revelations to the press. So far, they claim she's racked up a $20 million fine for breaking the terms of the NDA, and they're likely ready and willing to hold her accountable for these damages. Trump's lawyer even said, "I might even take an extended vacation on her dime."
