about ten years ago I was heading to JFK late at night on the A train and forgot my suitcase on the platform at 59th St as I boarded. a group of guys on the platform formed a human chain to throw the suitcase to each other and then onto the train right before the doors closed.

In my early 20s I drove from CA>MA. At a gas stop in TX talking with a trucker I learned that another trucker had been radioing for them all to keep an eye on the "little girl" in the white Mitsubishi towing a Uhaul. I kept meeting these guardian angels all across the country.

every now and then i remember the guy who, 11 years ago, in my first week in NY, saw me unknowingly drop my wallet, keys attached, while rushing to get on the L at Bedford and scooped them up and absolutely fastballed them into the train as the doors closed

One time in 1988, my Chevelle quit in a turn lane. I started pushing from the passenger side with the door open so I could steer. Suddenly I hear "Where we going with this?" and I look back to see two guys who had stepped up to help push.

the very day I moved to NY, was struggling getting 2 giant suitcases up brownstone steps and a random lady walking by with her toy poodle offered to help- as she was leaving told me, "welcome to New York darling!"
