The 20 Strongest Modern Anime Villains, Ranked

When most people think about the strongest anime villains out there, they think about characters like Madara Uchiha, Sousuke Aizen, Frieza, Naraku, and other characters from older anime. Those villains are great, but newer villains can be just as blisteringly evil - and just as strong.

For this list, we'll be looking at some of the strongest modern anime villains from 2015 - 2021. A few, like Kaido from One Piece and Utsuro from Gintama, appear in shows that started long before that - but they count because of the date they first debuted in their respective anime. Other characters are from recent shows, like All For One and Shigaraki Tomura from My Hero Academia and Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen.

    Sukuna - Jujutsu Kaisen

Sukuna was once a jujutsu sorcerer who no other sorcerer could defeat. He was so strong that when he eventually passed away, he became a cursed spirit. His full powers aren't yet known, but he's been seen using a domain technique called Malevolent Shrine, fire-based moves, and a slashing attack called Dismantle and Cleave. He can also manifest physically in the body of anyone who eats one of his fingers, which is what happened with Yuji Itadori.

    Muzan Kibutsuji - Demon Slayer

Without Muzan Kibutsuji, there would be no demons. Originally quite sickly, he transformed into a demon after taking a medication that was intended to cure his condition. Once transformed, he gained a plethora of powers including the ability to rearrange his own cells to his specification, the ability to transform other people into demons, the ability to absorb anything into his flesh and steal its powers, the ability to stop other demons from regenerating, and more. When Tanjiro first meets him, he's lucky he escapes with his life.

All For One - My Hero Academia

All For One is probably the most terrifying villain in My Hero Academia. His quirk, which he takes his name from, allows him to take quirks from other people and either keep them for himself or transfer them to others. This means that he has the potential to access literally any power in the MHA universe, and has a massive sway over all of his underlings, because he can dramatically change their lives for better or for worse.

Among his many abilities are maintain a pocket dimension, using the rare and difficult Super Tier magic, casting Level 100 spells like it's nothing, and destroying tens of thousands of soldiers with a single spell.
