Bad visual effects in superhero movies are nothing new; if anything, they symbolize&nbsp;a proud tradition of lousy effects in superhero movies dating back to even the best films. Superman (1978)&nbsp;may be a classic, but&nbsp;many of its effects are anything but; even still, it&rsquo;s considered one of <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/best-superheroes-all-time?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">the best superhero</a> movies. When a superhero&nbsp;film cuts corners and/or <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/worst-action-scenes-in-film/anncasano">lacks self awareness</a>, it runs the risk of reducing your heroes to zeroes. The worst special effects usually go hand-in-hand with lousy set design, unfortunate direction, and actors chewing scenes&nbsp;like it was there last meal. &nbsp;It all comes together to make a perfect storm of awful.

Nerds today are spoiled rotten. Thanks to the efforts of Marvel and Ryan Reynolds, quality superhero films are a dime a dozen. In the Dark Ages, though, before Robert Downey, Jr. ushered in a whole new era of blockbuster&nbsp;with&nbsp;Iron Man, comic book nerds seeking a little cinematic action had to really lower their standards. For every X-Men, there were fifteen bad comic book films that spawned more bad sequels than you can name.&nbsp;

Even the good comic book movies had a hard time maintaining their quality over the course of an entire series. Heck, some comic book movies had trouble maintaining quality from the original to the sequel. Before Marvel realized that keeping the quality high from film to film was the perfect way to attract repeat customers, most studios would gladly squander the success of a comic book movie by sh*tting out an underwritten, underacted, and underfunded sequel <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/bad-movie-sequels-that-made-more-money/williamsbrianjake" target="_blank">(that sometimes still made bank)</a>.

But&nbsp;this was before RDJ&rsquo;s Tony Stark-shaped gift to nerds, so most comic fans were almost forced to the theaters to check out their favorite comic heroes rendered in celluloid. After all, the first one was okay, so how bad could the second be? Bad, folks. Really, really bad.&nbsp;

Sometimes the best way to discover a new movie is to look back at an actor you admires prior work. With so many actors playing your favorite heroes and villains sometimes when you look back you discover they've already acted in a film with another comic book actor. This is where it gets fun.You know how in the comics there are an infinite number of alternate realities? Different earths and variable where every option is possible. The most common of them is the Ultimate or 1610 universe in Marvel where everything is skewed more modern and the <a class="edS-cl" href="https://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/every-character-from-the-marvel-cinematic-universe-ranked?ref=internalCrossLinking_keyword">Marvel Cinematic Universe</a> generally takes its cues from there.&nbsp;We've decided to skew reality to imagine these films with our heroes in play as the actors in their roles. What better way to discover a new movie than to look back and see The Joker and Robin going to <a href="http://www.ranker.com/tags/high-school?ref=internalCrossLinking_tag">High School</a> together? Or a crazy love triangle with Wolverine, Batman, and Black Widow? Did you know that Cap and Black Widow had met years prior and even took the SAT's together? All of this and more. When heading to our local cinemas for the latest comic book adaptation, we love to see over-the-top performances from the cast. While the most over-acted parts are typically the villains, this is not always the case (we&#39;re looking at you,&nbsp;Venom&#39;s Tom Hardy and&nbsp;300&#39;s Gerard Butler). Villain or hero, these actors are clearly having fun, and we should just sit back, relax, and do the same.

From the truly weird, like&nbsp;Spawn&#39;s John Leguizamo and&nbsp;Batman Returns&#39;&nbsp;Danny DeVito, to the campy, like&nbsp;Spider-Man&#39;s Willem Dafoe and&nbsp;Catwoman&#39;s Sharon Stone, these comic book movie performances are the ones we don&#39;t want to forget. Whether the movie in question is a genre classic or a piece of true dreck, these scene-stealers are worth the price of admission alone.

In the 2010s, superhero movies went from something you could turn your brain off while watching in a theater to honest to goodness Academy Award-winning films. But for every Joker and Black Panther there are 10 comic book films that are considered to be &ldquo;bad&rdquo; by critics and even fans. As the studios keep cranking out superhero film after superhero film things change. Drastically.Whether it's technological advances in CGI (The Hulk) recasting of your character (Batman) or both (Spider-Man) it makes a big difference as to how the character is portrayed and the overall tone of the film. Some (not all) of Ang Lee's Hulk's problems were that they were trying to create a fully realized character that the technology just wasn't ready for yet. Captain America: 1979 & 2018

Captain America

Captain America is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by cartoonists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (cover dated March 1941) from Timely Comics, a predecessor of Marvel Comics. The character wears a costume bearing an American flag motif, and he utilizes a nearly indestructible shield which he throws as a projectile. Captain America is the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young man enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum to aid the United States government's efforts in World War II. Captain America was the first Marvel Comics character to appear in media outside comics with the release of the 1944 movie serial, Captain America.

Thor is a fictional superhero that appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character, based on the Norse mythological deity of the same name, is the Asgardian god of thunder and possesses the enchanted hammer Mjolnir, which grants him the ability of flight and weather manipulation amongst his other superhuman attributes.
Debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 and was created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciller-plotter Jack Kirby. He has starred in several ongoing series and limited series, and is a founding member of the superhero team the Avengers, appearing in each volume of that series. The character has also appeared in associated Marvel merchandise including animated television series, clothing, toys, trading cards, video games, and movies.
The 2011 film Thor, based on the character and comic, was directed by Kenneth Branagh and starred Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Hemsworth reappears as Thor in The Avengers and Thor: The Dark World and will reprise his role in the sequels Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor: Ragnarok as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.

She is gifted with a wide range of superhuman powers and superior combat and battle skills.

Aquaman

Aquaman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, the character debuted in More Fun Comics #73. Initially a backup feature in DC's anthology titles, Aquaman later starred in several volumes of a solo title. During the late 1950s and 1960s superhero-revival period known as the Silver Age, he was a founding member of the Justice League of America. In the 1990s Modern Age, Aquaman's character became more serious than in most previous interpretations, with storylines depicting the weight of his role as king of Atlantis.
Later accounts reconciled both facets of the character, casting Aquaman as serious and brooding, saddled with an ill reputation, and struggling to find a true role and purpose beyond his public side as a deposed king and a fallen hero. The character will appear in the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, portrayed by Jason Momoa, with a solo film following in 2018.
