Superheroic slugfests get butts in theater seats, yet sometimes even the best superhero movies of all time get little to no respect. Film buffs, fuddy duddies, and folks who dismiss comic books as mere kid's stuff may regard the Marvel Cinematic Universe the way a foodie regards McDonald's, assuming the very worst based on the overhwhelming popularity and coporate slickness of the average comic book blockbuster. Even the most pretentious film snob can see, however, that some superhero movies aim to be superhero films.
This particular subset of superhero cinema aims for more than just daring heroes getting derring-do done on the big screen. These movies are so ambitious and undeniably well-made that they break out of the generic confines of "silly superhero movies" and are instead just plain good (or even great) films. These movies don't just represent a good time at the local multiplex. They're respectable, classy entertainment that elevate the whole genre.
