The events of the Star Wars saga may have happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, but it still takes place in a universe where time passes like it does in ours. Even though Star Wars characters all live on different planets with presumably different time cycles, they still have ages just like we do. Have you ever wondered how old Rey is at the beginning of The Force Awakens? Or how old Boba Fett is when he captures Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back? We can find out thanks to the official canon chronology

Here are the ages of some of your favorite Star Wars characters at various points throughout the series.

Kylo Ren Is 29 During 'The Force Awakens'

We know that Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is 29 years old during The Force Awakens, which makes him 10 years older than his main rival, Rey. Since The Force Awakens takes place 30 years after the end of the original trilogy, this means Kylo/Ben was born one year after Return of the Jedi.

This also means that means his parents, Han and Leia, got pregnant a few months after the Battle of Endor.

R2-D2 And C-3PO Are Both 66 In 'The Last Jedi'

Being that R2-D2 and C-3PO are droids, they obviously don't age the same way people do. But they both have memories that reflect the years they lived.

Both Artoo and Threepio were built just before the events of The Phantom Menace, which takes place 66 years before The Last Jedi. That makes them both about 66 years old now.

  • Like Luke and Anakin Skywalker before her, Rey begins her Jedi training when she's still a teenager. She's 19 years old during the events of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. This means that she wasn't even born yet during the events of the original trilogy.

Since she's 19, and since The Force Awakens take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi, that puts Rey's date of birth years after the Battle of Endor.

  • Palpatine Ruled The Empire Until The Ripe Old Age Of 88

Due to the heavy makeup worn by actor Ian McDiarmid, there's been some confusion over whether Palpatine looks the way he does because of his prolonged exposure to the dark side of the Force.

In truth, he's just an extremely old man. By the time Vader throws him down the Death Star elevator shaft, the Emperor is 88 years old. Since Palpatine becomes chancellor during the events of Revenge of the Sith, that puts the total length of his reign at 25 years.
