Symphonic rock is often times confused with progressive rock and with good reasons. Many of the best symphonic rock overlap with prog rock but what sets them apart is unlike other progressive rock bands, symphonic rockers use traditional prog rock elements - like classical music infused in their sound for example - as opposed to the psychedelic and experimental nature of prog rock. Sometimes, the best symphonic rock bands use orchestras or even synthesizers that give their music the feel of having an orchestral nature. Either way, the genre that shot to popularity in the 1970s remains a strong influence today.

So, what are the best symphonic rock bands? Any list of symphonic rock bands has to have the likes of Pink Floyd, the Moody Blues, Yes, Genesis, Electric Light Orchestra and Jethro Tull. These are some of the best symphonic rock bands of all time and some are even considered the greatest rock bands of all time. So, as a genre, symphonic rock is well respected and well represented in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

That said, it's up to you to decide what is the best symphonic rock band. If you notice a band isn't on this list and should be, feel free to add them. This list answers the questions "who are the best symphonic rock bands of all time?" and "who is the greatest symphonic rock musician ever?"

If you know enough about the genre, please vote based on the quality of the band's music instead of just voting for the most popular symphonic rock bands that you might've heard of. {#nodes}
