In late January 2019, the trailer for the Ted Bundy biopic Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile dropped, and people viscerally reacted to the teaser. Many felt the trailer romanticized Ted Bundy, who took the lives of at least 36 women as he made his way across the US in the late '70s. Other viewers couldn't help but feel physically attracted to Zac Efron's portayal of Bundy, noting his magnetism made him even more horrifying. Indeed, his conversational prowess and good looks didn't detract from his dark nature.

After the movie premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, the cinemtatic buzz continued to swell. Seen through the eyes of Bundy's girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins), Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile somehow convinces the movie-goers - who know all too well how this story ends - to sympathesize with Kloepfer. She falls for a man working hard to become a lawyer and a father figure for her daughter, and she defends him.

Viewers may still be on the fence about the rock star treatment of Ted Bundy, but most of them agree the Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile cast members look so much like their real-life counterparts that it's scary.
