The Shark That Fonzie Jumps on Happy Days (and Arrested Development)

The Shark That Fonzie Jumps on... is listed (or ranked) 1 on the list The Greatest Sharks in Pop Culture History

If you've ever heard the term "jump the shark" and weren't sure where it came from, here's the deal:

In the fifth season premiere of the famous American TV show "Happy Days," the gang visits Los Angeles. Fonzie, ever the cool dude, wearing his swimming shorts and yes, his trademark leather jacket, jumps over a shark just to prove he was brave.

It was at this moment that any "Happy Days" fan knew it was over. The show was going to suck from here on out. So, since then, whenever a good, well-respected or widely-loved television show does something so over-the-top that you know the writers have lost it or stopped caring, it is called "jumping the shark".

Because he contributed to such a huge part of television history, and because he's entered our lexicon as a society, the shark that Fonzie jumps over in this scene from "Happy Days," gets the crown as one of the greatest sharks in pop culture history. This shark also had a brief cameo on "Arrested Development." Henry Winkler (who played the Fonz) had a role as the Bluth family's lawyer, and recreated a jump the shark moment, a treat for television fans everywhere.

The Shark from Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus

The IMDB synopsis for this movie goes as follows: The California coast is terrorized by two enormous prehistoric sea creatures as they battle each other for supremacy of the sea.

If that isn't enough to make you want to see this movie, then you hate sharks AND freedom. This shark makes the list because it is a MEGA shark (or, a Megalodon, as is more accurately named in Shark Attack 3: Megalodon - also on this list). You don't get more awesome than a motherf*cking MEGA shark.

Especially a shark that can jump as high as this one. Out of all the over-the-top movie sharks on this list, the Mega Shark from Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus takes the cake.

Why? Because he takes down a plane (see the above clip).

Left Shark

It was aquatic dance seen 'round the world. Two sharks performed with Katy Perry during the 2015 Super Bowl, but only one had the moves to win over America's heart. Left Shark's dancing quickly became a trending topic on Twitter and spawned a meme that the country could not get rid of for some time. Later, Katy Perry's legal team even tried to trademark the term "left shark."

Sharknado. Shark. Nado.

It's basically exactly what it sounds like. In the Syfy TV movie (of course it is), a tornado made of sharks hits land in Los Angeles and causes all sorts of problems. It's technically a sequel to Sharktopus, and became such a cult hit that it's even getting a sequel.

It also features an A-List Hollywood cast, including Tara Reid, who, as you'll see if you click here, doesn't really know how the science of Sharknado works. In any case, these sharks are awesome and epic.
