In 1961, a young heir to traveled to New Guinea in search of native art. The heir, Michael Rockefeller, hailed from one of the world's wealthiest families, making it all the more sensational when he disappeared on his trip. The video below unravels just what may have happened, and the possibilities are nothing short of nightmarish.

The 23-year-old Rockefeller gained a love of art from his parents, a passion that set him off on his travels. At the time Rockefeller visited, New Guinea was still under Dutch control and was home to many tribes considered hostile to outsiders.

While sailing between villages along the coasts of New Guinea, Rockefeller disappeared without a trace. Though some suspected he fell victim to a predatory animal, many proposed that he actually ran afoul of the island's more hostile inhabitants.

Despite the vast resources available to the Rockefeller family, no trace of Michael Rockefeller ever turned up, which many claim as evidence he suffered a terrible fate. What fate might that be? Watch the video below to find out.
