The 1988 martial arts film Bloodsport kickstarted the career of Jean-Claude Van Damme, who plays protagonist Frank Dux. What most people might not realize is Dux is actually a real character, and the video below delves into his bizarre, and most likely false, backstory.
In the film, the main character enters into a tournament called a Kumite, where illegal and deadly forms of martial arts are used. As it turns out, the real-life Frank Dux claims he too entered into a Kumite of his own.
Dux's account of the Kumite ended up in a martial arts magazine in the '80s, forming the premise for Bloodsport. To this day, however, many dispute Dux's claims that he ever took part in such a tournament like the one depicted in the film.
Watch the video below to learn about the wild story of Frank Dux, and why in some ways it completely outweighs the entertainment and dramatics of Bloodsport.
