They are a playable character and the main protagonists in the Mass Effect franchise. Customizable down to their gender and skill, Commander Shepard can embody anything that the player desires, and is a veteran of the Skyllian Blitz, an Executive Officer of the SSV Normandy, and the first human to join the Spectres. This elite soldier and hero has saved the galaxy countless times.

Duke Nukem

Duke Nukem is a fictional character and main protagonist of the Duke Nukem series of video games. The character first appeared in the 1991 video game Duke Nukem, developed by Apogee Software. He has since starred in multiple sequels developed by 3D Realms. Most recently, he starred in Duke Nukem Forever, developed by Gearbox Software, which now owns the rights and intellectual property.
The character was created by Todd Replogle, Jim Norwood, George Broussard, and Scott Miller of Apogee Software. Duke Nukem was redesigned as the present tough guy incarnation by George Broussard and Allen Blum for the 1996 game Duke Nukem 3D. A sequel to Duke Nukem 3D, Duke Nukem Forever, was released in 2011, after remaining in development since 1997.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze

Ezio Auditore da Firenze is an Italian assassin and fictional character in the video game series Assassin's Creed. He serves as the protagonist of the franchise's series of games set in the Italian Renaissance. He appears in Assassin's Creed II, II: Discovery, Brotherhood, and Revelations, as well as the animated short film Embers. He also makes a brief animated appearance in Assassin's Creed III alongside Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.
Starting off as a young noble on a quest for revenge, Ezio is introduced to the order of Assassins, where he slowly learns to overcome his anger and embrace the order's teachings. Rising to the rank of Master Assassin in his later years, Ezio breaks the Borgias' dominance in Italy and restores the order's power, also doing so in Spain, Turkey, and indirectly, China and most of Europe. The character as such, his depiction, personality and development, as well as the chronicling of his entire life have received critical acclaim.

Nathan Drake

Nathan "Nate" Drake is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Uncharted video game series, developed by Naughty Dog. He appears in all four games: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and will appear in the upcoming sequel, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. He also appears in the motion comic prequel series Uncharted: Eye of Indra. He is played by actor Nolan North, who influenced Drake's personality by ad-libbing segments of the character's dialogue.
Naughty Dog based Drake's appearance and personality on daredevil Johnny Knoxville, actor Harrison Ford, and the heroes of pulp magazines, novels and films. To make him relatable, the character was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, and given an everyman persona; he is strong-willed, and often jokes and quips. The designers focused on giving him realistic reactions to his environment; for example, he stumbles while running, barely clears objects during leaps, and recognizes the absurdity of the situations in which he finds himself.
Nathan Drake has been called the mascot of the PlayStation 3 game console, and is increasingly identified with the platform.

Jackson "Jax" Briggs is a video game character from the Mortal Kombat fighting game series by Midway Games. Since his playable debut in Mortal Kombat II as the physically-imposing United States Special Forces superior of Sonya Blade, he has become a mainstay in the series canon, appearing in nearly every subsequent series installment, in addition to being the protagonist of the action-adventure spinoff title Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, and was one of the eleven characters representing the series in the crossover game Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. His most distinctive features in the game are his metal bionic arms, which first appeared in Mortal Kombat 3.
Jax has featured prominently in alternate Mortal Kombat media such as the two feature films, comic books, the 1996 animated series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, and official series merchandise. General and critical reception to the character and his Fatality finishing moves have ranged from positive to mixed.

Guile

Guile is a character in Capcom's Street Fighter series of fighting games. He debuted as one of the original eight characters in 1991's Street Fighter II and appeared in the game's subsequent updates. In the games he is portrayed as a major in the United States Air Force who is seeking to avenge the death of his Air Force buddy Charlie at the hands of the villainous dictator M. Bison.
One of the most popular characters in the series, Guile has appeared in other Street Fighter games, including Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter IV. He is also a playable character in various spin-off titles, such as the Street Fighter EX, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and SNK vs. Capcom series. In addition, Guile has appeared in other Street Fighter media. He is one of the main characters in the 1994 live action Street Fighter film and its animated spin-off, as well as Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. The character has also been featured in various official comics and merchandise.
Guile has been perceived as one of the more unique Street Fighter II characters in both appearance and gameplay.

Niko Bellic

Niko Bellic is a fictional character and the playable protagonist of Rockstar North's 2008 video game Grand Theft Auto IV, also featuring as a supporting character in its episodic content The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, all published by Rockstar Games. In the games, he is voiced by Michael Hollick.
Niko is a veteran of an unnamed war in Eastern Europe who moves to Liberty City in search of something important, but quickly becomes entangled in a world of gangs, crime and corruption.

Link

Link refers to several different incarnations of the same protagonist of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series. Link has been featured in other media from Nintendo, including its merchandising, comic books, and a cartoon series.
Link is depicted as a child, teenager, or adult of the Hylian race, originating from the fictional land of Hyrule. Link often travels through Hyrule, defeating creatures, evil forces, and the series' primary antagonist, Ganon, while attempting to save Princess Zelda and Hyrule. To defeat him, Link usually requires the mystic Master Sword and Light Arrows, or a similar legendary weapon, obtained after many trials and battles, and magical objects or using other items such as musical instruments and weaponry.

M. Bison

M. Bison, known in Japan as Vega, is a video game character created by Capcom. First introduced in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, he is a recurring character and primary villain in the Street Fighter series of fighting games, acting as the final boss and primary antagonist of the Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha series, and later a supporting villain in the Street Fighter IV series. He is also the final boss of the non-canonical Street Fighter EX series.
A would-be world dictator and a pure incarnation of evil, M. Bison's ambition is to control the world's governments through his covert crime syndicate, Shadaloo. He serves as the host of Street Fighter II 's fighting tournament and is the last opponent fought in the game. Several Street Fighter characters—including Guile, T. Hawk, Cammy, Rose and Chun-Li—have their personal vendettas against M. Bison and have entered the tournament in the hopes of facing him personally. M. Bison wields an inherently evil energy known as "Psycho Power".

Mario

Mario is a fictional character in the Mario video game franchise by Nintendo, created by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Serving as Nintendo's mascot and the eponymous protagonist of the series, Mario has appeared in over 200 video games since his creation. Depicted as a short, pudgy, Italian plumber who resides in the Mushroom Kingdom, he repeatedly rescues Princess Peach from the Koopa villain Bowser and stops his numerous plans to destroy him and take over the kingdom. Mario also has other enemies and rivals, including Donkey Kong and Wario.
Mario is said by many to be the most famous character in video game history. Mario games, as a whole, have sold more than 210 million units, making the Mario franchise the best-selling video game franchise of all time. Outside of the Super Mario platform series, he has appeared in video games of other genres, including the Mario Kart racing series, sports games, such as the Mario Tennis and Mario Golf series, role-playing video games such as Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG, and educational games, such as Mario Is Missing! and Mario's Time Machine. He has inspired television shows, film, comics and a line of licensed merchandise. Since 1995, he has been voiced by Charles Martinet, who first got the role in 1990.

Desmond Miles is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Assassin's Creed series of video games. He is a descendant of a long line of other Assassins, including Aquilus, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Edward Kenway, and Ratonhnhaké:ton.
