The Tech Impaired Duck meme is a hilarious source of tech support tips for everything from removing computer viruses to printing to iPod repair. Though the meme images can provide a laugh or two, they don't necessarily provide sound advice for fixing a technological problem as, well, the advice is coming from a duck.
Regardless of the quality of the advice, the best part of the whole thing is that this little duck charges absolutely nothing for his expert advice and saves a trip to the local repair shop. Need to uninstall a program? Delete the shortcut! Desktop full of icons? Get a new computer! Computer too slow? Click faster! Need more memory? Download some! It's so simple with the advice of the Tech Impaired Duck!
Using a stock image from FreeFoto, the Tech Impaired Duck meme first came to be in 2009 after it was superimposed over a yellow, orange, tan and red background and posted on Memegenerator. The meme grew legs when it was picked up by the notorious 4chan forum and spawned dozens of versions, in many languages, in the time since. Previously, 4chan has spearheaded other memes like the Rick Roll, lolcats, "Chocolate Rain" and Pedobear, among others.
The meme later went on to spike in the summer of 2010, with hundreds of different derivatives popping up on various websites like Tumblr, Reddit and others. Tech Impaired Duck meme enthusiasts even went as far as to create both a Twitter account and Facebook fan page for the little duck. While the little nameless duck provides suggestions and free tech support for all the computer and device problems we've all run into over the years, it's important to remember that as cute as the little webbed-feet fellow is, never trust him for sound advice. Come on people, it's a duck!
