J.J. Abrams' Episode IX will have the tough task of closing out the newest Star Wars installments with a satisfying conclusion that gives us the answers we crave and sets up a brighter future for the galaxy far, far away. The movie will cover what happens after The Last Jedi, most likely through some sort of time jump and show us what's been happening for the past few months or years since the Battle of Crait. The ending of The Last Jedi hints at a stronger Resistance and perhaps even the resurgence of the Jedi Order. Might we see Rey begin to rebuild the ancient order by movie's end?

Despite everything we think know about Star Wars Episode IX, there's still a lot left to decipher. Plenty of theories and predictions have already popped up online since opening weekend. From whether we'll see Kylo Ren and Rey face off once again to whether we'll get another Starkiller Base, there's a lot we can predict after watching The Last Jedi.

Luke Might Show Up As A Force Ghost

Luke's physical form vanished at the end of The Last Jedi, which is usually an indication that a Jedi has turned into a Force ghost. His disappearance, on top of his warning to Kylo Ren during their duel on Crait that "he'll see him around," seems to indicate that we'll see Luke again in Episode IX. Will he show up to guide Rey or will he torment Kylo instead? Either way, we'll probably see Luke in the final chapter of the Sequel Trilogy.

This one's a sure thing. After two movies of tension, Rey and Kylo Ren will have one last duel for the fate of the galaxy. Both characters will have reached a new level of power by the time Episode IX comes around, which means that they'll probably be evenly matched in the Force. Honestly, this final showdown could go either way, but we assume the hero will prevail over the villain. This is a Star Wars movie, after all.

The Movie May Address Leia's Offscreen Death

Since The Last Jedi doesn't address Carrie Fisher's death, it'll be up to Episode IX to provide Leia a graceful exit from the story. Chances are that the beloved princess will die offscreen and that the movie will begin with her funeral or some kind of exposition about the general's death. It'll be a somber beginning for the movie, but a necessary one to explain why Leia is no longer around.

We'll Learn The True Nature Of Rey's Backstory

While we at least have the answer to who Rey's parents are, there are still some lingering questions about her past. How did she have dreams about Ahch-To and the tree library of Jedi texts if she'd spent all of her youth on Jakku? And why was she having those dreams? Why is Rey so powerful in the Force to begin with? Why was she chosen to be the counterbalance to the dark side? There are a lot of questions that still need answering about this new Jedi. The revelation about her parents' identities only scratches the surface. Episode IX will have to pull its weight in fleshing out Rey's story.

Poe May Be The New Leader Of The Resistance

Since Leia won't be in Episode IX, the Resistance will need a new leader. That will undoubtedly be Poe. General Leia has been molding Poe into a leader for the past two movies, and by the end of The Last Jedi, it seems that he fully understands the sacrifice and patience it takes to lead a movement. We'll probably see a much wiser Poe in Episode IX.

The Knights Of Ren Will Be Revealed

The Force Awakens sort of portrays the Knights of Ren as the Sequel Trilogy's version of the Sith, but we never learn anything about them beyond a brief glimpse of how they look. The Last Jedi ignores them completely. But if this is the order of evil that took down Luke and his fledgling Jedi, shouldn't we know more about them at this point? Heck, shouldn't they be front and center? Episode VIII treats Kylo Ren like he's the only dark side threat in the galaxy after Snoke's death. Does this mean that the Knights of Ren fell before the start of the Sequel Trilogy? Perhaps Episode IX will give us the answers.
