Kishimoto's Editors Pushed Him To Create Orochimaru

It wasn't Kishimoto who decided to introduce Orochimaru - it was actually his editors. Hoping to improve the series' popularity, they encouraged him to introduce a villain.

Kishimoto wasn't into the idea at first. He thought that people appreciated the series because of the conflict offered in the Chuunin Exams, and he didn't want to interrupt that. He wanted to resolve the arc with Shikamaru Nara passing the test. But eventually, he did accept their advice and created a new villain - Orochimaru.
