The Triwizard Winnings Are 1000 Galleons

While it appears in the film that Harry got nothing out of his participation in the Triwizard Tournament, he actually gets a significant amount of gold in the source material.

The prize for a Triwizard Tournament victor is set at 1000 Galleons without subject to tax. There's meant to be an entire prize-giving ceremony for the winner, but this is canceled in Harry's case because of Cedric's demise.

Harry feels like he doesn't deserve the money and attempts to offer it to Cedric's parents - he then gives it to Fred and George Weasley for them to open their joke shop when the Diggorys decline Harry's offer.

Harry happens upon the closest route to the Triwizard Cup in the third task but finds it guarded by a Sphinx. She gives him three choices: stay silent and walk away, answer her riddle correctly and pass forward, or answer it incorrectly and engage her in combat.

Harry chooses to listen to the riddle, which is an elaborate poem that gives clues to the word the Sphinx is looking for: Spider. Harry takes his time to guess the answer but decides against walking away.

He eventually figures out the riddle when he realizes the word “er” aligned with “spy” sounds like “spider.” The Sphinx allows him to pass and Harry reaches the final portion of the maze.

The end of the Third Task arrives after Harry crosses the Sphinx but realizes that Cedric got ahead of him by using another path. Cedric manages to outrun Harry and almost wins until an Acromantula ambushes him.

Harry decides to save Cedric rather than capitalize on the distraction - his decision momentarily backfires when the Acromantula turns its attention to him and lifts Harry in the air. Harry and Cedric ultimately defeat the Acromantula by combining their stunning spells to hit its underbelly; however, it drops Harry from 12 feet high and injures his leg.

Harry's inability to return to the cup later on in the graveyard is due to the leg injury he sustains from the Acromantula.

The Other Three Champions Use Magic To Overcome The Dragons In The First Task

The Other Three Champions Use Magic To Overcome The Dragons In The First Task

Harry uses his Firebolt to fly around the Hungarian Horntail in the First Task and the only magic he uses is the Summoning Charm. Harry's decision to fly impresses and surprises many because the earlier participants all choose to face the dragon using their magical skills.

Cedric uses Transfiguration to turn a rock into a dog to distract the Swedish Short-Snout dragon he's facing; it partially works because the dragon shifts its focus back on him and he barely escapes with the egg after he's burned a bit.

Fleur bewitched the Welsh Green dragon she faces with a Sleeping Charm, which works well enough for her to slip past it - her plan backfires somewhat when the dragon snores and sends a jet of flame toward her that burns her skirt, forcing her to use magic to put it out.

Krum makes the boldest move by fighting the dragon - he uses the Conjunctivitis Curse to make the Chinese Fireball dragon's eyes swell, but it also causes the dragon to put trample its own eggs, costing Krum some points.

The Third Task is the grand finale of the Triwizard Tournament and features celebratory events both before and after the task. The champions' family members are invited by the schools to watch them compete, which can also include surrogate families.

Since Harry's family, the Dursleys, have no interest in his activities, the Weasleys are invited as Harry's family members for the third task. Bill and Molly Weasley arrive at Hogwarts to meet Harry and he spends the day showing them around the school.

Molly has a tense confrontation with Cedric's father Amos before the third task begins - Amos accuses Harry of stealing Cedric's spotlight and he almost gets into an argument with Molly when she defends Harry until Amos' wife calms him down.

Harry Keeps The Miniatures Dragon Model As His Possession After The First Task

Each Triwizard Champion is presented with a miniature model dragon that represents the actual dragon they will be facing in the First Task. The model dragons are the wizarding equivalents to action figures but can also function like pets.

Harry keeps the model dragon of the Hungarian Horntail he receives by his nightstand, which is known to have sentient mannerisms like going to sleep - Harry even becomes affectionate with it to change his opinion of dragons to a positive one.
