Things You're Sick Of Explaining To Your Parents
There's no doubt that there's a huge gap between the current generation of 20-to-30-somethings and our parents' generation. Since our parents were young, a lot has changed. The food we eat is different. We spend our time and communicate in different ways, and even fundamental values have shifted over time. It's hard to keep track of the things the kids are doing. And the result? A lot of explaining. So much explaining.Â
What are some things your parents don't get? If you're a post-college millennial, odds are that your parents have no idea what you actually do for work. They also might not understand why it's okay that you have changed jobs so much, what a freelance position is, and why it's no longer fashionable to "call up the manager and see if they got your resume." And don't even get them started on why you aren't married (especially if you live with your SO), why you don't have kids yet, and why you'll probably never buy a house. There's also the technological gap. Even if your parents try to keep up with technology, you've probably found yourself explaining what an Apple ID is, why they can't hold their phone like that when you Facetime, and what the deal is with all of these bunny ear photos they see on social media. These are all things that parents don't understand, especially if they're of the Baby Boomer variety.Â
We may be sick of explaining stuff to parents, but hopefully you take some pity on them and explain nicely. Vote up the things you find yourself constantly explaining to your parents and add anything you think should be on this list.
