Who Should Be Named TIME's Person Of The Year For 2017?
UPDATE: On December 6, 2017, Time announced "The Silence Breakers" of the #MeToo Movement as the 2017 Person of the Year. Runners up included Donald Trump, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, Colin Kaepernick, and Robert Mueller.
Time magazine has been choosing a Person of the Year since 1927. Usually, nominees have heavily influenced the social media and news cycles so much so that everyone in the US and most of the world knows their names and accomplishments.
In some cases, the Person of the Year has been extremely controversial. Adolf Hitler, for example, was chosen as Man of the Year in 1938. While he hardly accomplished any good for his native Germany or the land at large, all people from young children to old grannies knew of him. In fact, Hitler was the greatest threatening force in the entire freedom-loving world. He even created what he deemed the master race. More recently, figures like American President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were awarded coveted spots on the magazine's cover. Trump, though tendentious, completely shook the political world and beat more likely presidential candidate Hilary Clinton. Merkel was a less jarring cover woman: though controversial in her home region for a wide-open stance on refugees, she helped salvage all of Europe during the continental financial crisis in 2015.
2017's Person of the Year may end up being controversial as well. Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is considered a front runner, though activist athlete Colin Kaepernick has also been mentioned as a contender. Below is a collection of the most likely nominees: Time will be announcing the official winner in early December.
