Videojournalist Mike Cohea captured quite a bit of beauty during a year when good news was hard to come by. Over the course of 2017, Cohea took timelapse footage of multiple meteorological events throughout the US, many of which appear in the amazing video below.
Events that normally take hours to unfold appear as swift scene changes - the sun and moon trading spaces in a matter of seconds or the stars peppering themselves across the night sky.
Cohea captures the sky and horizon at all hours and in various settings. In one lapse, the moon rises over a river, and in another a group of buildings are illuminated by fireworks.
Watch the timelapse compilation below to see just how much happens as day transitions into night, and how such transitions look remarkably different depending on the location and the time of year.
