Nothing warms the heart like sincere stories of celebrities helping out their own cast and crew. It's a nice deterrent from typical tabloid stories featuring who's the nastiest star at the craft table. Celebrities like Hugh Jackman and Keanu Reeves are known to flex their good-guy muscles, but there are also some celebrities you'd never expect to be so incredibly thoughtful.Â
This list of actors who went out of their way for their cast and crew feature some of the most heartwarming instances of big time celebrities doing good for the sake of doing it. Take a look below and vote up the best deeds.Â
When he felt the other actors on the Sopranos set were not paid enough, James Gandolfini wrote all of them a check for $33K. He is constantly remembered for being one of the nicest and most caring individuals to work with.
Vanity Fair writes, "After filming wrapped on John Wick: Chapter 4, the actor invited the stunt crew that worked on the film to join him for dinner in Paris on Saturday night, presenting each of them with a personalized Rolex Submariner watch—which retail for just under $10,000 apiece—as an expression of his gratitude for all their hard work."
Viggo Mortensen was enamored with the horses he worked with on the set of The Lord of the Rings. He bought two of them, Uraeus and Kenny, for himself and gifted one to Arwen's stuntdouble, Jane Abbott. She fell in love with the horse, similarly to Mortensen, but could not afford to purchase him herself.
Hugh Laurie came to the defense of some extras on the set of House because apparently the assistant director was being a d*** to them. That was kind of cool to hear, as someone who has worked low-level jobs in production and been around condescending industry a**holes.
Mara Wilson's mother was unfortunately battling breast cancer during the filming of Matilda. It's true that Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman comforted the child star during this time. "Danny and Rhea would take me to the theater to see a play, or to the movies or to just hang out at their house, things like that that was all usually done when my mother was in the hospital."
According to what I've heard, Sigourney Weaver is an incredibly nice and professional person. I listened to the podcast I Was There Too with Ricco Ross, and he told a story about the filming of Aliens where James Cameron fired a large portion of the British crew who was working on the film. The central issue was working hours, and the crew was unhappy working overtime and not getting paid for it, so Cameron fired them. Ross said that Sigourney went to Cameron and had a conversation which resulted in the crew getting re-hired and getting paid. It was an interesting tidbit to the story, and I highly recommend the podcast as well.
