The Best Trip Hop Bands/Artists

First rising to prominence in the UK at the beginning of the 1990s, trip hop infused elements of breakbeat, electronic music, soul, funk, jazz and hip hop. Trip hop artists are closely associated with the city of Bristol and are known to be highly experimental. So by that definition, it would be fair to call trip hop artists as part of the experimental music movement. Trip hop has also been labeled by some as ambient music. But when push comes to shove, in the mid-1990s, trip hop was one of the most critically acclaimed and widely praised genres of the time.

So, who are the best trip hop artists? Any list of trip hop artists has to include the likes of Tricky, Portishead, Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation, Sneaker Pimps, Air and Zero 7. These trip hop bands are known to many as being at or near the top of trip hop and with good reason. Their music influenced both the genre and a generation of music listeners and bands who grew up listening to trip hop.

That said, it's up to you to determine what are the best trip hop artists. If you notice that a trip hop band isn't on this list, feel free to add them. This list answers the questions "who are the best trip hop bands of all time?" and "who is the greatest trip hop musician ever?" If you know enough about the genre, please vote based on the quality of the band's music instead of just voting for the most popular trip hop bands that you might've heard of. {#nodes}
