On February 5, 2019, President Trump delivered his second State of the Union in front of a joint session of Congress. The State of the Union was postponed after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi blocked President Trump from the House until the partial government shutdown was resolved. President Trump temporarily reopened the government on January 25, and the SOTU was rescheduled. Twitter reactions abounded during and after President Trump's 2019 State of the Union. The responses to President Trump's SOTU spanned across the political spectrum, and no matter the stance, the Twitter responses were visceral.
In the last Congress, both parties came together to pass unprecedented legislation to confront the opioid crisis, a sweeping new farm bill, historic V.A. reforms, and after four decades of rejection, we passed a V.A. Accountability, so we can finally terminate those who mistreat our wonderful veterans, and just weeks ago, all parties united for groundbreaking criminal justice reform. They said it couldn’t be done.
WOW! President Trump just made the most powerful PRO-LIFE statement ever made by a President during the #SOTU.— Shane Wikfors (@ShaneWikfors) February 6, 2019
These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world. And then, we had the case of the governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth. To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking the Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb. Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life.
Anyone wonder why at the #StateOfTheUnion, how Pelosi didn't even clap when @realDonaldTrump mentioned things that have happened that he promised would happen in his campaign? She's mad because he's actually getting things done #SOTU2019— Alexa Misty (@AGDAlexaMisty) February 6, 2019
