Clues and Foreshadowing That Point to Tyrion Being a Targaryen

Updated 5 Nov 2019 43.2k views15 items
SPOILERS have been unshackled in the bowels of Meereen so unless you're caught up on Game of Thrones and all of the Targaryen tinfoil they have possibly packed in, run for your lives!
After we watched him tell a story to Dany’s dragons, a popular fan theory that proclaims Tyrion a Targaryen came roaring back to life. Tyrion is intelligent and a big drinker. That’s what he does. Drinks and knows things. He also tries to get non-drinkers to play drinking games. With Daenerys out of the city and in the hands of the Dothraki, Tyrion suggests that her two dragons be released as extra fiery muscle against potential traitors and attacks at Meereen. He tells Varys, Missandei, and Greyworm a few facts about dragons. But saying you know about dragons is one thing. Walking right up to two of them and touching them is quite another. And it’s a Targaryen thing to do.
Season five’s storyline put the Imp in Mereen with Daenerys and fired up the Tyrion Lannister theories. This union could very well be the beginning of the Three Dragon Riders prophecy. There was lots of foreshadowing about Tyrion’s connection to dragons, thus the Targaryen bloodline.
On the way, Drogon flies over Ser Jorah and Tyrion. Tyrion is mesmerized not only because there haven’t been dragons in Westeros for over 200 years, but also because he has been obsessed with them since he was a child. A red priest also saw a vision of Tyrion casting a large snarling shadow. And we know what that could mean… is Tyrion Lannister a Targaryen, or at least half Targ?
Considering how much his father Tywin hated his guts, Tyrion could certainly be the offspring of Joanna Lannister and Aerys Targaryen, the Mad King and Daenerys’s father. So is Tyrion Dany’s brother? The fact that Tywin goes out of his way to cruelly berate Tyrion and thwart him at every turn may be one of the largest hints that the former Hand of Aerys’s knew what was up and would rather die than put his lands in Targaryen hands. This is why he won’t give Tyrion Casterly Rock even though Jaime cannot inherit it.
Let’s drink in some "Tyrion Lannister is really a Targaryen" theories and see if any of them hold water… or wine.
