Adam Pengilly

Adam Laird Pengilly (born 14 October 1977) is a British skeleton racer who has competed since 2004. He won a silver medal in men's skeleton event at the FIBT World Championships 2009 in Lake Placid.
Pengilly finished eighth in the men's skeleton event at the 2006 Winter Olympics. During those games, he kept a diary of what transpired around him.
Pengilly qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics where he finished 18th. On 25 February 2010, he was elected by his fellow Olympic athletes to the International Olympic Committee Athletes' Commission along with American ice hockey player Angela Ruggiero.
Adam served as a member of the IOC at London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and Pyeongchang 2018.
Following an altercation with a security guard Pengilly was sent home from the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Alfred Tysoe

Alfred Ernest Tysoe (21 March 1874 – 26 October 1901) was an English athlete, and winner of two gold medals at the 1900 Olympic Games representing Great Britain.
Born in the Old Vicarage, Padiham, near Burnley England, Tysoe ran part-time with the Skerton Harriers running team while still working as a farm labourer.

In 1896, he won the Northern Counties 1000y and one mile titles. His running successes brought him to the attention of Harold Hardwick, founder of Salford Harriers in 1884; in 1897 Tysoe was persuaded to join the Salford club. Within his first year with Salford Harriers, he had won the AAA championships at one and ten miles. In 1898, he helped the team to win their sixth National Cross Country championship.
At the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris, Tysoe was a favourite in the 800m, having just two weeks before the games broken the 880y world record by running 1:57.8. He won easily, beating John Cregan from the United States by 3 yards. He also won a gold medal as part of the British team in the 5000m team race.
This proved to be his last season on the running track. In 1901, he became severely ill with pleurisy and died at his home in Blackpool, aged 27.
He is buried in Layton Cemetery, Blackpool. His gravestone reads: "In loving memory of Alfred Ernest Tysoe. Amateur Champion half-mile runner of the world.
Born March 21st 1874, Died October 26th 1901. 'Brief life is here our portion, brief sorrow, short-lived care. The life that knows no ending, the tearless life is there.' This stone was erected by the many admirers of this famous athlete, by whom he was held in the highest esteem."

Anna Bebington

Anna Rose Watkins MBE PhD (née Bebington, born 13 February 1983), is a British rower.
Double Olympian, Watkins won a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, both in the double sculls. She has also won four medals in the World Championships, winning gold in successive years, in 2010 and in 2011.

Audley Harrison

Audley Hugh Harrison,  (born 26 October 1971) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2001 to 2013. As an amateur he represented Great Britain at the 2000 Olympics, winning a gold medal in the super-heavyweight division and becoming the first ever British boxer to win Olympic gold in that division. Harrison turned professional the following year after signing a contract with BBC Sport, and went on to have seventeen fights on the network before their cancellation of all boxing broadcasts.
In his professional career he challenged for the WBA, British, and Commonwealth heavyweight titles. In 2009, Harrison won the Prizefighter tournament, his first of two. He became the European heavyweight champion in 2010, after defeating Michael Sprott in a rematch of their 2007 bout. In 2013, Harrison won his second Prizefighter tournament, becoming the first boxer to do so.

Beatrice Armstrong

Beatrice Eileen Armstrong (11 January 1894 – 12 March 1981) was a British diver who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics and in the 1924 Summer Olympics.
She was born in Hendon, Middlesex.
In 1920 she won the silver medal in the 10 metre platform competition.
Four years later she was eliminated in the first round of the 10 metre platform event after finishing sixth in her heat.

Benjamin Jones

Benjamin "Ben" Jones (2 January 1882 – 20 August 1963) was a British track cycling racer who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics.
In 1907, he won the one and five mile events at the British Empire cycling championships at Newcastle.  Soon after, his professional cyclist license was revoked after an altercation with another cyclist.  His attendance at the 1908 Olympics was thus in question until he was finally reinstated just before the event.
In 1908 he won the gold medal in the 5000 metres competition as well as in the team pursuit as member of the British team. He also won a silver medal in the 20 kilometres event. He competed in the 660 yards competition but was eliminated in the semi-finals. In the sprint event he participated in the final and came second, but the pre-arranged time limit was exceeded, resulting in the race being declared void and no medals being awarded.



Bradley Wiggins

Sir Bradley Marc Wiggins, CBE (born 28 April 1980) is a British former professional road and track racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2001 and 2016. Nicknamed "Wiggo", he began his cycling career on the track, but made the transition to road cycling and is one of the few cyclists in the modern era to gain significant elite level success in both those forms of professional cycling. He is the only rider to have combined winning both World and Olympic championships on both the track and the road, as well as winning the Tour de France, and holding the iconic track hour record. In addition, he has worn the leader's jersey in each of the three Grand Tours of cycling and held the world record in team pursuit on multiple occasions.
The son of the Australian cyclist Gary Wiggins, Wiggins was born to a British mother in Ghent, Belgium, and raised in London from the age of two. He competed on the track from the early part of his career until 2008. Between 2000 and 2008 he won ten medals at the track world championships, of which six were gold: three in the individual pursuit, two in the team pursuit and one in the madison. His first Olympic medal was a silver in the team pursuit in Sydney 2000, before winning three medals including the gold in the individual pursuit at the Athens 2004, and two golds in the individual and team pursuit at the Beijing 2008.
On the road, Wiggins turned professional in 2001 but made it his focus from 2008. Initially viewed as a time trial specialist and as a rouleur, he showed his ability in stage races when he came fourth in the 2009 Tour de France; he was later promoted to third after Lance Armstrong's results were annulled in 2012. He signed with the newly formed Team Sky in 2010, and in 2011 he claimed his first victory in a major stage race in the Critérium du Dauphiné, as well as finishing third, later promoted to second, in the Vuelta a España. In 2012, Wiggins won the Paris–Nice, the Tour de Romandie, the Critérium du Dauphiné, and became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France and the time trial at the Olympic Games. In 2014, he won gold in the time trial at the road world championships, and founded the WIGGINS cycling team. Wiggins returned to the track at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and in June 2015 he set a new hour record with a distance of 54.526 km (33.881 mi). In 2016, he won a further world championship in the madison, and gold in the team pursuit at the Olympics, his fifth successive medal winning appearance at the Games. He retired from all forms of professional cycling on 28 December 2016.
Wiggins was awarded a CBE in 2009. Following his success in 2012, Wiggins was the subject of further honours and awards; the Vélo d'Or award for best rider of the year, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award and a knighthood as part of the 2013 New Year Honours.
On 5 March 2018, the British House of Commons Committee for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport published their report called "Combatting doping in sport". They concluded inter alia that Team Sky had used the powerful banned corticosteroid triamcinolone in 2012 under TUE "to prepare Bradley Wiggins, and possibly other riders supporting him, for the Tour de France. The purpose of this was not to treat medical need, but to improve his power to weight ratio ahead of the race."

Charles Moss

Charles Moss (6 March 1882 – 25 July 1963) was an English road racing cyclist who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He was born in Ascott-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire.
He was part of the Great Britain team which won the silver medal in the team time trial. In the individual time trial he finished 18th.

Charlotte Cooper

Charlotte Cooper Sterry (née Charlotte Reinagle Cooper, 22 September 1870 – 10 October 1966) was a female tennis player from England who won five singles titles at the Wimbledon Championships and in 1900 became Olympic champion. In winning in Paris on July 11th 1900, she became the first female Olympic tennis champion as well as the first individual female Olympic champion.

Chemmy Alcott

Chimene Mary "Chemmy" Crawford-Alcott  (née Alcott; born 10 July 1982) is an English former World Cup alpine ski racer. She competed in all five disciplines: downhill, super G, giant slalom, slalom, and combined.Alcott competed in four Winter Olympic Games and seven FIS World Championships and has been overall Senior British National Champion 7 times (1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009) and Overall British Ladies Champion 8 times. She retired from international competition following the 2014 season.

Chris Arrowsmith

Christopher "Chris" James Arrowsmith born 9 November 1966 at the Royal Naval Hospital Imtarfa, Rabat, Malta is a Great Britain Slalom Canoeist who competed from the late-1970s to the early 1990s. He finished 17th in the C-2 event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Christopher currently lives in Stratford upon Avon.
Christopher, along with the rest of his family, was introduced to Canoeing at a 'Try it' session in the Dorking, Surrey Swimming Pool at the age of 9.
He started in competitive canoeing in June 1978, entering the Novice event at Shepperton Weir on the River Thames in Surrey.
Over the next few years along with his Stratford on Avon Kayakists (SOAK) fellow canoeists he competed in all of the canoe competition discipline’s of:

Chris Hoy

Sir Christopher Andrew Hoy, MBE (born 23 March 1976) is a British racing driver and former track cyclist who represented Great Britain at the Olympics and World Championships and Scotland at the Commonwealth Games.
Hoy is eleven-times a world champion and six-times an Olympic champion. With a total of seven Olympic medals, six gold and one silver, Hoy is the second most decorated Olympic cyclist of all time.
With his three gold medals in 2008 Summer Olympics, Hoy became Scotland's most successful Olympian, the first British athlete to win three gold medals in a single Olympic Games since Henry Taylor in 1908, and the most successful Olympic cyclist of all time. After winning a further two gold medals (in the keirin and team sprint) at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Hoy has won more Olympic gold medals (six) than any other British athlete along with Jason Kenny, and more total medals (seven) than any except fellow cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Christine Ohuruogu

Christine Ijeoma Ohuruogu, MBE (born 17 May 1984) is a British track and field athlete who specialises in the 400 metres, the event for which she is a former Olympic,  World and Commonwealth champion. 
The Olympic champion in 2008, and silver medalist in 2012, she is a double World Champion, having won the 400 m at the 2007 and 2013 World Championships. She has also won six World championship medals in the women's 4 x 400m relay as part of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team (three awarded following disqualification for doping for other athletes) and bronze Olympic medals with the women's 4 x 400m relay at the 2008 Beijing Games and the 2016 Rio Games, her final Olympics. Ohuruogu shares with Merlene Ottey and Usain Bolt the record for medalling in most successive global championships - 9 between the 2005 World Championships in Athletics and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Ohuruogu's personal best time of 49.41 seconds, set at the 2013 World Championships, beat the UK record set by Kathy Cook in 1984 by 0.02 seconds, simultaneously making her the first British female to win two World Championship titles, and the first British female to win three global titles. Her relay bronze at the 2016 Summer Olympics made her only the second British track and field athlete, after Steve Backley to win medals at three successive Olympic Games. She is coached by Lloyd Cowan.

Christopher Dean

Christopher Colin Dean, OBE (born 27 July 1958 in Calverton, Nottinghamshire) is an English ice dancer who won a gold medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics with his skating partner Jayne Torvill. They also won a bronze medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics.

Craig Wilson

Craig Wilson (born 14 September 1973 in Dumfries) is a Scottish curler from Dunblane. In 1993, Wilson won the World Junior Curling Championships for his Scotland team over Michel Ferland of Canada. However, the following year he would finish 5th.
Wilson wouldn't return to an international event until 2003 when he played third for David Murdoch and won a gold medal at the European Curling Championships. At the 2005 Ford World Men's Curling Championship, Wilson would win a silver medal with Murdoch as they lost to Canada's Randy Ferbey team in the final.
Wilson was picked to be the alternate player for team Great Britain at the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Cyril Alden

Cyril Albert Alden was an English cyclist who completed at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp and in 1924 in Paris.
At the 1920 Olympics at Antwerp, Alden won two silver medals when he was second in the 50 km race and was part of the British team in the team pursuit that finished second behind Italy. Alden also competed at the 1924 Olympics and came second in the 50 km race.

Daley Thompson

Francis Morgan Ayodélé "Daley" Thompson,  (born 30 July 1958), is a British former decathlete. He won the decathlon gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984, and broke the world record for the event four times.
With four world records, two Olympic gold medals, three Commonwealth titles, and wins in the World and European Championships, Thompson is considered by many to be one of the greatest decathletes of all time. Robert Chalmers described him as "the greatest all-round athlete this country [United Kingdom] has ever produced."
