You can't always get what you want - or so the saying goes. But the following list of unlucky MCU characters sincerely just can't catch a break. What do the cosmic overlords of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have against these people? Maybe the filmgoing masses should try to send some good energy their way to turn things around for them.
Sharon Carter was just trying to help the noblest superhero of them all, and she got exiled from her home country for it. Wanda Maximoff's entire life has been marked by tragedy after tragedy. Phil Coulson got stabbed to death... and was brought back to life only to have a much harder existence than the one he had before. We know conflict is essential to filmmaking and storytelling in general, but come on, Kevin Feige. Cut our heroes some slack, eh?

When you look like Chris Hemsworth and have all the powers of the God of Thunder, life seems like it would most likely be pretty good! He's charming. He's gorgeous. He's powerful. What more could you want? Well, the self-proclaimed "strongest Avenger" definitely wishes every single member of his family wasn't slain by the time Avengers: Endgame rolled around.
His mother was stabbed to death in Thor: The Dark World. His father faded away into nothing in Thor: Ragnarok. His brother was choked to death by Thanos at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. To top it all off, Asgard was brought down by Surtur, Hela eliminated the Warriors Three, and the Mad Titan also took out Heimdall, as well. Sure, he's still got the Avengers, Guardians, Valkyrie, Korg, and Miek to pal around with (not to mention Lady Sif kicking around somewhere in the universe) - but don't you think the dude just wants his family back?36120Can't catch a break?

Poor, poor Bucky Barnes. The WWII soldier turned Hydra assassin spent decades upon decades killing people against his will. After falling from an elevated train in Captain America: The First Avenger, Barnes's body was recovered and transformed with a version of the Super-Soldier Serum and a metal arm. He would spend the next 70 years being cryogenically frozen, only released to slay targets for his masters.
What makes all of this even worse is the fact that Bucky remembers each and every person he finished off during his time as the Winter Soldier. How do you live with yourself knowing all of the pain you caused against your will? And then, when he begins to break free of the Winter Soldier, Zemo frames him in Captain America: Civil War. Couldn't he just let the man rest?31218Can't catch a break?

Wanda Maximoff is one of the most powerful members in the ever-expanding roster of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She embraces the power of her Chaos Magic and becomes the "Scarlet Witch" at the end of WandaVision, but the true potential of her power set is yet to be tapped. That being said, though the Scarlet Witch is clearly no slouch in a fight, that doesn't mean she is immune to heartbreak and hardship.
Seriously... Wanda's life has been nothing but a seemingly never-ending string of tragedies. Her parents were slain during a bombing when she was a child. Her brother perished during the Battle of Sokovia. She accidentally wiped out a bunch of people during the opening of Captain America: Civil War. She fell in love with Vision only to have to terminate him at the end of Infinity War before Thanos brought him back to life... only to end him again. How much heartbreak can one person handle?36040Can't catch a break?

If your father is a megalomaniacal madman hellbent on eliminating half of life in the entire universe, who took great pleasure in pitting you against your sister in childhood fights only to tinker with your physiology when you lost, what kind of person would you turn out to be? We'd wager you'd come out of that situation a little worse for wear.
Time after time, Nebula would cross swords with Gamora and would always lose. Did she get a pat on the back from her father? No, of course not. He would disassemble her body in order to "upgrade" her. So traumatized and desperate for his approval, Nebula would do anything to get on her adopted father's good side. And just when she was getting closer to the Guardians of the Galaxy as a family of sorts, Thanos finally gathered the Infinity Stones and snapped most of them out of existence.25027Can't catch a break?
