The Most Anticipated Disney Live-Action Remakes

These are the highly anticipated live-action and photo realistic remakes that are slated to be coming out of the House of Mouse. From projects that will be released in theaters like the untitled Jungle Book sequel or the prequel to The Lion King (2019), to the films that will make their debut on Disney+ such as Robert Zemeckis's Pinocchio. While some of them are beat for beat the same story that endeared us to the animated originals, other remakes like Cruella and it's upcoming sequel give a fresh take on a beloved Disney villain. Along those lines, Tink will give us more insight into Peter Pan's sidekick while Peter Pan & Wendy will offer another opportunity to visit Neverland. So for those of us who don't want to grow up, or for those of us who have grown up and want to share their love for Disney with their kids, this is the place to look for all of Disney's upcoming live-action remakes.

Vote up the Disney remakes that you're most excited for and vote down any you think will fail to capture the magic of the original.

Are you as excited as we are to see Josh Gad ditch Olaf for a minute to play Quasimodo in the live-action remake of The Hunchback of Notre Dame? Despite very little being said about the film at this time, Josh Gad has hinted at forward momentum concerning the highly anticipated remake.

    Hercules

To say that the original Hercules has a devoted fanbase might be underselling it a bit, as there is a dedicated twitter to providing fans with updates. Currently Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is set to pen the script and the Russo brothers are producing, so you know it's going to be up to Disney's high standards.

Disney+ subscribers will be extremely excited to know that the new Pinocchio, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks as Geppetto, will hit the streaming service on September 23, 2022. While the film sports an all-star cast, I think we are most excited about JGL (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) as JC (Jiminy Cricket).

    Untitled Jungle Book Sequel

Jon Favreau is planning to return to the jungle with an, as of yet, Untitled Jungle Book Sequel. While Disney had been making live action remakes since Jungle Book (1994), it was Jon Favreau's adaptation that married the live action actors with CGI in a way that truly captures the spirit of the original. We can't wait to see him do it again with the sequel that will continue the story of Mowgli and friends.

If you saw Emma Stone as her fashion forward version of Cruella, chances are you can't wait for a sequel. The good new is that one is in the works, but when it will actually hit theaters is still up in the air. We certainly can't wait to see Stone back in her stylish monochromatic outfits.

    Tink

With Reese Witherspoon set to produce and potentially star in, at least that was the original idea, Tink will show a whole new generation what a little Pixie dust can do. Victoria Strouse (Finding Dory) is set to write the script alongside Maria Melnik who is best known for darker fare like 2019's Escape Room. Maybe this Tinkerbell story will have a little edge to it.
