Actors are often typecast as a specific type of character. Those who become defined as &quot;good guys (or girls)&quot; and &quot;heroes&quot; wind up playing, more often than not, good guys and heroes. When actors play&nbsp;the same kinds of roles over and over again, it can be easy for audiences to start accepting them only in those roles.

But actors often like to stretch and challenge themselves by taking roles <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/superhero-actors-you-forgot-played-villains/josh-plainse" target="_blank">outside the bounds</a> of their typical persona. Just as a comedian might be eager to take on a dramatic role, an actor known mainly for playing a hero might relish the chance to finally take on a true baddie. No one in their right mind would do this. Villains

People love to live dangerously, which probably leads many of you out there to lust after fictional villains from pop culture. For one reason or another, people crush on villains, often attracted to their powers, their nefarious agendas, or their aptitude for emotional manipulation.&nbsp;*Swoons.&nbsp;That being said, usually people know their crushes on villainous fictional characters get into some awkward territory, especially if you're crushing on some sexy monsters. But in the same way some people can't help but be bad, other people can't help but be compelled by the bad boys and girls out there. Sci-Fi

When done right, sci-fi movie villain deaths can be incredibly satisfying. You know when villains have done&nbsp;their job right when&nbsp;the audience&nbsp;hates them with a fiery passion. The director has done their job&nbsp;if they allow the audience to blow off all that steam by watching the villain croak in the most gruesome (or at least karmically satisfying) way possible. Bonus points if the method said villain used to maim or torment people is turned around and used against them.

The world of sci-fi produces some of the biggest and baddest villains around, and the bigger they are, the&nbsp;harder they fall. When the villains from this genre are given a taste of their own medicine, it involves, say, fiery falls from skyscrapers experienced in slow motion due to all the futuristic drugs they&#39;re on. Or, if a bad guy is really unlucky, using a kaiju to terrorize thousands of people results in an opposing&nbsp;kaiju showing up to throw him hundreds of feet through the air to his demise. Basically, it&#39;s a genre <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/sci-fi-movie-villain-details/raelyn-giansanti" target="_blank">filled with brutal villains</a> who face incredibly brutal deaths. Whether you love to hate them or just straight-up hate them, movie villains have to be defeated to give a film a satisfying ending. And some bad guys are just turned into mutant dogs, which is a pretty nasty fate no matter how you look at it.

In most movies, there is a clear cut distinction between good and evil characters.&nbsp;But sometimes, as the story unfolds, the lines blur on who&#39;s&nbsp;good or bad and we end up hoping the villain overtakes the hero. Here are some of the most popular movie villains and the reasons that made people jump teams and head to the dark side.&nbsp;

You know the villain as the Big Bad, the truly horrible no-good person who has <a href="https://www.ranker.com/list/most-irredeemably-evil-villains/williamsbrianjake" target="_blank">no redeeming qualities whatsoever</a>. But as many great writers have said, &quot;every villain is a hero,&quot; given a different context. The villains here have all been beaten in disappointing ways, either by trickery, accident, or good luck. We love them and think they should have gotten a fighting chance.

In the end, crime never pays, but occasionally, movies feature villains who deserve better than the extreme amounts of &quot;justice&quot;&nbsp;they are served. It&#39;s not that these wrongdoers are necessarily&nbsp;correct in their missions;&nbsp;it&#39;s just that there are villains who are punished too much. Villains whose punishments were too severe show up across all of cinema, but it&#39;s especially prevalent in films where the main characters themselves may not be exactly correct in their choices. Take, for example, a principal&nbsp;whose sole job is to stop kids from deciding when they get to take their own &quot;day off.&quot; Or&nbsp;a senator doing their best to confront a new and incredibly dangerous mutant threat emerging across the country. These people might seem cruel or mean, but that doesn&#39;t mean they deserve to be humiliated, fired, or sentenced to an untimely demise.

Cinema history has presented audiences with some antagonists that can truly only be described as&nbsp;pure evil villains. This type of villain seems to have lost its&nbsp;luster in recent years. Movies seem to be more interested in antiheroes or warped reflections of main characters&nbsp;with <a href="http://www.ranker.com/list/movie-villains-who-were-right/loganrapp" target="_blank">motivations audiences can relate to</a>.&nbsp;Even Thanos, whose great plan was to wipe out half of all life in the universe, was given a backstory to justify his draconian dream.

It&#39;s become so commonplace that it would be a refreshing change of pace to see more truly unsympathetic characters on cinema screens. The types of villains who want world domination for no other reason than they&#39;d like to be in charge. The villains who slay their own henchman at the slightest disagreement, and don&#39;t&nbsp;have any sort of love interest to show audiences a different side of them. That&#39;s&nbsp;the class&nbsp;of villains that really knows how to make its&nbsp;mark.

It’s a fact of life that any film or television show that you love will be remade and you probably won’t like what the new generation of producers do to the thing you once held dear. The hardest type of changes to accept are villain remakes. We grow close to a villain, and once we’ve accepted something as super scary, or so bad that they’re good, it’s hard to accept anything else in their place. Remakes of iconic villains are so hard to pull off, especially if the villain that’s being remade is a cult classic like Pennywise the Dancing Clown, or Freddy Krueger, but that doesn’t mean that people are going to stop trying. Every good protagonist has an equal and opposing antagonist(s). A good villain should be just as complex as the hero,&nbsp;with an empathetic backstory, dynamic personality, and played by a charismatic actor. They should steal scenes. Disney villains come in many forms. Michael Myers

Michael Myers is a fictional character from the Halloween series of slasher films. He first appears in John Carpenter's Halloween as a young boy who goes takes his older sister's life, then fifteen years later returns home to take out more teenagers. In the original Halloween, the adult Michael Myers, referred to as "The Shape" in the closing credits, was portrayed by Nick Castle for most of the film, with Tony Moran and Tommy Lee Wallace substituting in during the final scenes. The character was created by Debra Hill and John Carpenter and has appeared in nine films, as well as novels, a video game, and several comic books.

Freddy Krueger

Fred "Freddy" Krueger is the main antagonist of the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. He first appeared in Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street as a burnt serial killer who uses a glove armed with razors to kill his victims in their dreams, causing their deaths in the real world as well. In the dream world, he is a powerful force and almost completely invulnerable to damage. However, whenever Freddy is pulled into the real world, he has normal human vulnerabilities. Krueger was created by Wes Craven, and had been consistently portrayed by Robert Englund since his first appearance. In the 2010 franchise reboot, he was portrayed by Jackie Earle Haley. In 2011, Freddy appeared as a playable character in the video game Mortal Kombat.
Freddy is a vengeful ghost who attacks his victims from within their dreams. He is commonly identified by his burned, disfigured face, red-and-dark-green striped sweater, brown fedora, and trademark metal-clawed brown leather glove only on his right hand. Robert Englund has said many times that he feels the character represents neglect, particularly that suffered by children. The character also more broadly represents subconscious fears.

Joker

The Joker is a fictional supervillain who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Jerry Robinson, Bill Finger, and Bob Kane, and first appeared in Batman #1. Credit for the character's creation is disputed; Kane and Robinson claimed responsibility for the Joker's design, while acknowledging Finger's writing contribution.
